The short answer is yes, I can't imagine any scenario that NYY doesn't pounce on a 7 year deal that beats that. I also can't see why Philly wouldn't.

Philly is more in on Harper now and it was reported yesterday they wouldn’t sign both.

Heyman doesn't think the Yankees will bite: If true Chisox offer to Manny is only 175M for 7 (via @Buster_ESPN), Machado may have erred not making deal with #yankees back on dec. 19 when yanks dined w/MM and NYY was ready to talk turkey. Machado wasn’t talking $ yet but NYY would have paid more than 175. Back then anyway.

NY still needs a 3B, they were never in on Machado if they won't match that deal, and clearly they were in on him. That's my take anyway.

It's also the kind of situation where you expect a genuine mystery team to pop up if that really is the high bid, this is why an agent floating numbers like $300M and $325M early in the process can hurt a player sometimes.

Cashman must be pleased to have media like Heyman supporting his information operations.
I mean, it's the main story of the offseason, I think reporters have probably been keeping a lot of info to themselves as Lozano spirals down to earth.

Also if this is the range Machado ends up getting, people always say "he cost himself a lot of money" doing something or other and it's rarely true, but it's looking like it might be in this case. Maybe don't spike the first baseman multiple times for no reason?

If he signs at $175M, the players union is going to be pissssssed
Meh. Maybe the union ought to look at all the long-term deals that clubs came to regret and start pointing the finger at guys like Ellsbury and Cano.

Teams with good farm systems don't have to overpay for name stars. This is a strategy invented by Branch Rickey, not Dombrowski or Cashman.

Yep, Olney basically stood by his reporting in his column today:

"Sources say Machado has an offer of $175 million in hand from the White Sox -- Lozano, his agent, released a statement Wednesday evening indicating this information is inaccurate -- and at least some interest from the Phillies and the Yankees."

NY is now around $213M not counting Gray, so they could still probably fit in Machado and stay under $246M by a bit if that's their goal.

So another 40 man decision coming for Ottavino, maybe Cessa's nine lives are finally up, or they can try sneaking Higashioka through and just replace him if he is claimed.

I'd go to battle with this team right now. Happy to keep improving but this is a legit championship contender
They need a 3B still, but honestly even if that is Gio Urshela (who they have on a minor league deal currently), agreed.

Heyman: Yankees are indeed close to trading Sonny Gray. Teams are also asking about Tommy Kahnle and Jonathan Holder.

------

I wonder if Holder is mentioned because it would mean a better return.

So, Abbey was write in the case of Ottavino.

Zach Brazille: Another quote from Adam Ottavino father John: “I’m happy whenever anybody gets what they want, and he really got what he wanted. Playing for the #Yankees was worth an awful lot to him. At the end, playing for the Yankees was very important to him.”

Bumping this from Saturday:

LOL! I knew this was coming! So far we've got: 1) grew up in Brooklyn; 2) best friends with Kahnle; 3) works out in empty store in Harlem; 4) attended games at the Stadium with his dad as a child; 5) former teammate of Tulo; and 6) former teammate of LeMahieu. Damn, so why hasn't Ottavino signed on with the his beloved Yankees yet? What's it gonna take? Could the holdup be the Yankees reluctance to issue Ottavino his jersey number of choice?

I don't think NY moves Kahnle or Holder unless they really get offered something good, Kahnle was a mess last year but maybe Ottavino can get him back to his 2017 form, and Holder is one of the few guys left with options, plus NY doesn't have the same reliever depth in the minors that they've had in recent years due to trading so many of them.

Maybe Holder with Gray sweetens the pot for an Atlanta pitcher?

Despite all the twists and the turns, this offseason for the Yankees has gone almost as predicted, minus Machado. + 2 bullpen arms, + top of the rotation arm, + Happ/CC. Really the only surprises were Tulo and DJL

Could be, Tarpley or Harvey could jump into that spot. It depends a bit what they think of guys like Espinal and Cortes, who aren't on the 40 man but could be major league ready.

Yes, but Ottavino replaces Robertson which is roughly a wash. The bullpen held serve really, but didn't add. Paxton is the big addition that wasn't there prior.

That's true if you compare the April 2019 team to the September 2018 team, but they will also have both Happ and Britton for the whole season.

This is what NY has added since Opening Day 2018:

Gleyber/Andujar (both started the season in the minors)
Voit
LeMahieu
Happ
Paxton
Britton
Ottavino

Here is a list of guys who were on the Opening Day roster last year who are now gone:

Tyler Austin
Brandon Drury
Ronald Torreyes
Neil Walker
Sonny Gray (well, he will be gone shortly)
David Robertson
Chasen Shreve
Adam Warren

They have gone from 84 to 91 to 100 wins and continue to improve.

Jon, what are the odds a healthy Clint Frazier takes the LF job from Gardner this Spring Training? Or during the season? He's fun to watch.

This is tied to Andujar, if they leave him at 3B or if they trade him, that opens up an immediate role for Clint (who said on Twitter today he is fully cleared for spring training).

If they move Andujar to primary DH like I am hoping, then Stanton goes to LF and Clint needs to wait in AAA again, although he could use the ABs. Either way, I think Gardner is the 4th OF as crow said, behind either Stanton or Clint.

That 2019 roster is significantly better than the 2018 one, which is why the griping on NYYF has been driving me up a wall.

That forum is a disaster. I've found another forum that is pretty active (Behind the Bombers NY Yankees Forum on tapatalk) and its night and day compared to NYYF. NYYF is only good for scratching an itch in the offseason but they are basically radio callers on a forum.
