I know my knowledge here is limited but I think the Pats are crushing this draft so far. I don’t always feel that way.
Either Morgan or Red October said this is a landmark draft for them. Crucial. Certainly approaching it that way.

I'm at the point where I think ESPN is going out of their way to have commercial time when the Pats pick. It can't be a coincidence that it's done this often.

Stidham, according to ESPN’s draft site, was the #56 overall prospect. The Pats, who really could use a backup QB upgrade, as well as someone who could possibly succeed Brady, got him at pick #133.

Sweet.

You never know how these guys will pan out but it’s hard to say they’ve done anything but do very well (on paper anyway) so far this draft.

Give me about 10 more minutes and I’ll have myself convinced that Stidham is the second best QB in football

Riddick — “this is a guy who needs structure, he needs the ultimate structure.”

McShay — “could not go to a better place”

Mort — he probably played all of last season with a back problem

It's coincidence. I would strongly encourage anyone that thinks there is a company-wide bias at ESPN to consider how many decision makers are likely Patriots fans.

I say this as someone that works for ESPN and is a Patriots fan.

Etling is very unlikely to be here long-term. He was a 7th round pick who hasn’t looked like much in the limited action he’s seen. Media I’ve listened to, inc and especially the PFW team we’re not high on his performance, never popped - as he shouldn’t. He’s a 7th rounder.

Not necessarily. Competition is good for everybody.
Totally agree - especially for the most important position on the field. Still, even by BB's unconventional drafting standards, it's a little weird that we haven't drafted a TE and/or fat ass DT since they are obvious roster holes

Anyone with a trade chart handy have a sense of how far up we could move with #162 and one of the 7ths- 239, 246 or 252?

It is not hate of Pats fans but a recognition that many are watching and would sit through a commercial segment to see the pick.

Noting the position a Patriots draftee plays in the new thread titles would be a nice quality of life addition. Just a thought. (Like the Joejuan thread)

Scouting report:
Cowart was rated the No. 1 recruit in the country by some outlets in 2015 after earning All-American and Florida Class 6A Player of the Year honors. He could not get on the field regularly at Auburn (12 tackles, 1.5 for loss, in 23 games over two years as a reserve); he felt that was primarily because the coach who recruited him, Will Muschamp, left for South Carolina. His mother was also having health issues, so he left the Tigers in September and enrolled at Hillsborough Community College near his home in the Tampa area. Maryland won the second recruiting battle for his services, and he played well enough in 2018 to be named an honorable mention All-Big Ten performer. Cowart started all 12 games for the Terps, posting 38 tackles, five for loss, three sacks, two interceptions, and a forced fumble.

Overview
Former five-star prospect who flopped at Auburn but showed signs of life this season at Maryland. Cowart posted modest production, but scouts will take note of his size, length and power at the point of attack. He is more likely to be considered an interior defender with some rush potential in odd or even fronts, but he needs to turn the flashes into consistency to become a reliable rotational defender.

The teams that were in contact with Hunter the most were Raiders, Pats, Cowboys, Titans (before they signed Humpries), and Packers. The Raiders were the most active lately, so not surprised...just wanted him on the Patriots.

Mayock is making a point to change the Raiders culture, drafting Clemson players and emphasizing leadership when he speaks about the picks. Makes you wonder why they traded for Antonio Brown.
