I will fall on my sword and start a gamethread on a Rodon start.

He was OK in his first start, but it would be nice to see him pitch a bit deeper. And to walk less people.

Edit: Lineup is already posted because it's a day game.

Torres, 2b
Soto, rf
Judge, dh
Rizzo, 1b
Volpe, ss
Verdugo, lf
Cabrera, 3b
Wells, c
Grisham, cf

Rodon had very good stuff according to the analytics people, a better slider than he had at any point in 2023. Fingers crossed!!

Kind of surprised they're not working in Berti more, although you can't sit Volpe and I guess they don't want to sit Cabrera or Gleyber.

Soto should have been on base there too, a terrible check swing call on 3-0 before he grounded out.

Loaisiga should be the first reliever in today, especially if NY holds onto the lead.

Volpe has impressive range on popups into the short outfield, much like Jeter did.

Two things I've noticed in this game so far:
1. Austin Wells sees a ton of pitches. That is great to see.
2. We hit into a lot of double plays. That is not great to see.

Rodon starts the 6th at 77 pitches, one more scoreless inning please, Carlos.

Loaisiga looked great in the 9th, Volpe is the automatic runner at second, so let's score him, please.

Wonder if they will stick with Loaisiga or go to Holmes here, Holmes hasn't pitched since Sunday but Loaisiga looked great and is supposed to be doing multi-inning stints this year. I'd keep in Jonny L.

Bad luck on that ball being knocked out of Rizzo's glove.

What a gift. Almost certainly would have gotten the pitcher out, but 2-2 with the bases loaded, who knows.

Winning 6 of 7 on the road against the nemesis Astros and the NL champion DBacks to start the year.

Yeah, couldn't have asked for more.
. . . and, yet, can't shake their gritty archrivals in the divisional race. ;)

NY went back to their A bullpen today, Hamilton/Loaisiga/Holmes/Ferguson combined for:

5.2 2 3 0 1 8

All four of those guys have a 0.00 ERA so far.
