Hi Cuz! Thanks for the title, it got me to look up Machamer, Looks like he was a reliever at Kentucky - do you think the Sox see him as a starter, or are they just trying to get him innings on a schedule as he adjusts to pro ball?

Dalbec went 2/4 with a double and a k. You know things are going well when you go 2/4 and it lowers your batting average over the last 13 games. I'm not sure how much longer they can keep him in Salem. He's hitting .268 for the year now and his ISO is well over .300 in 370 PA.

It is always hard to say how the organization views prospects as their short term views and long term views may be in complete opposition. It is always best to remember that Papelbon was a reliever when drafted, a starter through his minor league career, and then a reliever again in the Majors.

If I had answered this before the game tonight, I wouldn't have had a clue how the Sox planned on utilizing him. It is often the case where they will have pitchers "start" the game and go a prescribed inning count and then hand it over to a regular starter at the start of an inning... in which case the "starter" can prepare as normal (even though they will be coming into the game in the second or third) while the actual starter can get his work in starting with a clean inning.

However, that does not appear to be the case with Machamer who pitched three innings tonight in his debut. Given the nature of his work in college and the time off between actual pitching appearances, that is a starter's load. So, it looks in the short term that they see him as a starter.
