Maybe not really worth its own thread, but people love to talk about A-Rod, so here's a place to do that now and going forward...

"Former New York Yankees star and new ESPN Sunday Night Baseball analyst Alex Rodriguez was named a special adviser to his former team on Sunday.

Rodriguez will join past Yankees Hideki Matsui, Reggie Jackson and Nick Swisher in advisory positions this spring. This is Swisher's first time holding the post. Rodriguez, who will directly report to general manager Brian Cashman, had a similar title last year."

So he's working for a front office and broadcasting? I get that this isn't exactly national security here, but they're don't even care about the pretense of no conflicted interest.

Pedro Martinez has held both roles for a couple of years

Heh, I thought that might lure Coup back to this section. :)

This off season has been insane, as is most of the world atm, I decided to just ignore it all and see where we are opening day. As long as I don't hear any 'we have too much pitching' nonsense this season, we are apparently going to try to bash our way to a pennant...

Amen. We old folks have to pace ourselves.

This is great. I will have to mention this to the lady of my house, who, while nominally a yankee fan, hates A Rod with a passion.

I still think his best place is in the broadcast booth. I was pleasantly surprised how good he is, but when you're replacing Harold Reynolds, there's little downside.

I don't even think he's that good in the broadcast booth, he obviously has a lot of knowledge but he has always been like a puppy who needs everyone around to love him, and it is draining to listen to. I do think he will be good for the young talented infield prospects on NY, they still all look up to him.

And if NY is trying to bring in Machado next winter as everyone seems to think, A-Rod is a great guy to have on their side as he was Machado's hero growing up.

"He was my favorite player growing up and I've always looked up to him since I've been playing baseball," Machado said Saturday night.

These positions aren't very public and there seems to be a huge emphasis this spring on fostering clubhouse chemistry and keeping pressure off the team. Instagram is loaded with pictures of the team taking communication classes too. So, not saying Arod won't have an important role because who knows, but I think these are really just positions created to surround a very young team with some veterans and experience that is sorely lacking.
