Andy Marte Dies In Car Crash

Former Red Sox prospect Andy Marte was killed in a car crash this morning in the DR.

The Red Sox traded Edgar Renteria for him back in the 2005-2006 offseason, then flipped him to Cleveland for Coco Crisp. He was a top 10 prospect when they acquired him.

That's sad.

I remember the big debate about what to do with him. Lots of folks were really excited to have a top-5 prospect in the system, and were strident in their belief that the Sox should hold on to him.
