You weren't kidding. Best part is Benoit doesn't even look back and starts walking to the dugout.

I mean thats a stupid pitch to throw, regardless of the hitter its asinine to throw it to someone like Harper who will perhaps miss 1/100 times on a pitch down the pipe

Harrisburg, Pa.
Texas blew a 5-1 lead to lose 8-7 to Seattle for the sweep.

Dyson blew it. Dyson's 2017 season to date is impressive:

4.1 IP
15 ERs
27.00 ERA
0-3
3 blown saves

13 ERs actually, the guy is having a hard enough time on his own without you adding a couple extra. :)

CB Bucknor with one of the worst calls you will ever see tonight, thankfully it ended up not mattering. Bottom of the 9th, WAS over ATL 3-1, bases loaded for ATL and 2 outs. The ATL hitter struck out, Wieters couldn't catch it, but knocked it down, stepped on home, ballgame...

Except Bucknor decided a little while later that it was a foul tip and the AB was alive, even though the batter actually missed the pitch by about a foot and a half. Luckily he ended up making out and the result was the same, but just so so bad.

Even by his high (low) standards, it is hard to top that one for combined wrongness and impact on the game, major WPA play. The game was over and his call pulled ATL back to a 18 percent win expectancy.

Those who miss Travis Shaw: he just hit a 2-run HR, first inning against Hendricks, Cubs, at Wrigley. On MLBN right now. Last night Shaw hit two doubles and a homerun. And the guy we got for him---will he throw a pitch for the Sox this year?

What is allowable in this thread? I posted here so that others might know that that game is airing now. As for the answer to my question, I don't know. Has Thornberg been shut down? Do they know when he's coming back?

Ichiro just went deep for the first time as a visitor at Safeco, in what has a good chance of being his last AB there ever. Unfortunately it only cut a 10-4 lead to 10-5 in the 9th, but still, pretty cool.

These two big nights brought Shaw's average up to a robust .237.

.237/.297/.593. A .890 OPS mostly driven by slugging is still pretty good. I'm not a Shaw believer but he may provide more value than Sandoval by the end of the year.
Maybe. If he does, it'll likely be marginal. But will he provide more than Sandoval + Thornburg, because that's the real decision the Sox had to make.

Yes. The reason I regret the trade so far is the lead-handedness of Sandoval. I thought the knock against Travis was that he couldn't hit. He has been hitting the same way Sandoval has, so far: home-runs, low average. If Thornburg ends up providing a lot of value this year I'll be as happy as the rest of you.

No, the knock on Shaw is that he's a walking average MLB player, and you don't sweat league-average players, especially when you can trade them for valuable pieces and you already have another player under contract for that same position who could very possibly be average as well.

It's not that complicated, and frankly, I don't get your borderline unhealthy obsession with Shaw.

Thanks for the laugh. I needed it. I'll be thrilled the very moment Thornburg starts making as much a contribution to the Red Sox as Shaw has to the Brewers. My biggest concern at the time of the trade was having to see Sandoval botching plays at third. So far, that fear has been realized. Maybe his hands will do his bidding better as the weather warms.

Thames with 2 homers already tonight. .379/.474/.924 with 10 homers and a 261 wRC+ through his 2 PA's tonight.

SEVEN of his 10 HR’s this season are against the Reds…..

They should just walk him every plate appearance

Thames homers again vs the reds.

Just a thought. But perhaps the reds should stop pitching to him.

Is that 8 against the reds? i.e. more than anyone else has total...

edit: and wow that Coughlan dive. You don't often see Molina get fooled while catching.

Overlooked perhaps because of the Coughlan leap, the Blue Jays won the game in the 11th inning after Marcus Stroman pinch hit a double and scored the go-ahead run. Wonder if Gibbons will be raked over the coals for risking one his best pitchers. I mean, he could have gotten hurt on a freak out of the ordinary play or something.

Where is Reggie's Raquet to criticize Gibbons over that move. Afterall, Stroman is a much better pitcher than Wright ever was.

Blue Jays were up 4-0 after 6 and ended up losing 8-4 in 11, two run HR by Grichuk off Osuna to tie it with two outs in the ninth and Matt Carpenter with the game-winning grand slam in the 11th.

even decent seasons from Ryan Zimmerman and jayson werth would be huge for them, especially if Harper is back to MVP form. even a league average season from zim would be a huge improvement, is he can OPS+ around 115-120, that team is great

The Dodgers were down 5-2 in the 9th, and just hit 3 HRs in the first 4 pitches of the inning to tie it at 5, back to back to back.

That was one of the more brutal ways to watch your team lose a baseball game that I've seen in quite a while.
