In the Astros' case, they dragged their feet on relocating their games and passed up opportunities to play in Atlanta or St. Pete, and by the time they agreed to move, Milwaukee was the only option left. In fact, the Astros were insistent that the games be played in Houston as scheduled (or as double-headers late in the weekend). MLB, rightly, refused to let the Cubs fly into the storm. In 2007, the Indians' "home" opening series ended up being played at Miller Park. They had already had an entire series hosting the Mariners postponed because a Cleveland storm had dumped a foot of snow on Jacobs Field. Funny how Bud Selig managed to make money for Milwaukee in two of the three incidents mentioned.
Stanton at this point is so hot he really should be getting the Bonds treatment.Stanton gets to 50 before September. Who was the last to do that?
Those unis are very Art DecoStanton gets to 50 before September. Who was the last to do that?
$10 general admission tix for all the games might bring some folks out.The attendance at the games might be zero.
F that. Shady for the Astros. The storm isn't the Rangers fault. Just play it in Arlington. How is playing in Tampa helping Houston/Texas? Dallas is still closer to Houston than Tampa, especially when you consider people escaping the Gulf to go north. So the Astros will "host" the Rangers for their scheduled series this week at Tropicana Field in St. Pete. Likely they'll be playing more home games in St. Pete (a scheduled home series against the Mets) as the city of Houston recovers.
Apparently, the first choice was to play in Arlington and switch out a September series scheduled for Arlington and play it in Houston (conditions permitting). The Rangers refused, preferring to have all the games played in Arlington with the Astros being the home team for this week.
Seems a shady thing for the Rangers to do to try to get a few extra home games, even if they weren't treated as the home team for a few of them. In spite of how it might affect the Red Sox chances in the race for the best record in the AL, I hope the Astros curb stomp the Rangers.
And now the Astros are playing 19 straight away from home. Lol boo hoo for the Rangers and, especially, their fans ... whose homes aren't in the process of being destroyedTexas general manager Jon Daniels told reporters in a conference call that the Rangers had concerns for their fans who had bought tickets to the September series. Further, if they made that swap, the Rangers would not be home for the final four series of the season, from Sept. 15 on."
Playing a home series in the Rangers ballpark, in front of Rangers fans, is basically an away series.Maybe I misunderstood, but I heard that the Rangers offered the Astros management the profits from the series, if they wanted to play it in Arlington. By choosing rather to make both teams go to Tampa Bay, they are giving up that box-office money. Seems a strange choice, but I guess they are strong believers in home-field advantage and thought that the Astros would be more likely to win the series if it were played in St. Pete?
He's been throwing his slider more and they've been giving him increased rest between starts after a rough patch in the middle of the season following his excellent start.Dylan Bundy throws a complete game, 1 hitter for the Orioles, with 12 k's. That's double digit k's in 3 of his last 4 starts.. The hype that surrounded him coming up is starting to look real.
Have you seen the Astros road record this year?Playing a home series in the Rangers ballpark, in front of Rangers fans, is basically an away series.
Damnit...the "few years ago" came back to bite me. Looks like Granderson AND Gyorko both did it last season, with identical 30 HR / 59 RBI lines. Still, it looks like it could be a ratio record for Thames.Eric Thames hit his 28th HR tonight. He now has 53 RBIs.
He has driven himself in more than all his other teammates combined. I don't know of an easy way to find HR to RBI ratio, but from a couple of articles I've found from a few years ago, it appears nobody has ever done this while hitting 25+ HR...ever.
Closest I found:
1. Barry Bonds: 45 HR / 90 RBI (2003 Giants)
2. Mark Bellhorn: 27 HR / 56 RBI (2002 Cubs) !!!!!!!!!!!

My son loges to school down there and is walkable to the Trop. He is going to the game tonight, $10 and he will be right on the field somewhere.Attendance 3,485 for tonight's game at St. Pete.

They're not playing Friday, but they are playing a double header on Saturday.AJ Hinch just said Astros are going home tomorrow
Guess they're playing the Mets at home then
Pretty remarkable. Gallo is up there for fewest RBI per HR. Last year Granderson had 30 HR and 59 RBI.Schwarber went into tonight with 22 homers and 44 rbis. After tonight, he's at 24/48. Gallo is now at 36/69. Lucas Duda is at 25/52 between his two teams this year, and Brandon Moss is at 17/34.
