KOC said on Simmons's podcast last night/this morning that Brogdon has had a foot issue since he was drafted that some doctors see as a "ticking time bomb." Sounds kind of like the injury that screwed up the Carlos Correa signing(s).

Here's what he's written about it:

In college, Brogdon had surgery to fuse a bone in his left foot, which multiple front-office league sources have indicated drew medical red flags prior to the 2016 draft and could cause issues in the future.

Why would this mean that MB would be untradeable in the short term, unless MB was playing through some foot issues that we didn't hear about.

Something got worse in the past year that makes him untradeable? Because last year he was, you know, traded.

Yeah, there's no way to know near-term: is this the longstanding medical red flag used as an excuse by someone in the process, or some change to his actual prognosis?

Easy to imagine, given the history of the foot, that this simply reflects different conclusions by different medical teams.

I suspect the Clippers are probably THE team most sensitive about bringing in guys with injury issues at this point, with the Pelicans #2. Those teams have had their fill of highly-paid players who can't stay on the court.

Except untradeable in the "short term" makes it sound like it's something every medical team would agree to.

Unless the issue is that MB should be getting surgery on his tendon and shouldn't be putting it off.

Brogdon arrived at UVA with a foot problem that required surgery at the end of his freshman season. (He redshirted the next season while rehabbing.) Maybe the Clippers are just wary of his long-term prognosis, but If the Celtics were worried that Brogdon would be unavailable for most, if not all, of the coming season, why would they trade one of their healthy point guards and leave themselves with only Derrick White and Payton Pritchard at that position?

This is my issue with Windhorst----it's not like he reviewed the MRI. Is that was the Clippers flak told him? Is that what the Celtics told him? Is that his speculation based on what who knows told him? I have zero idea...I don't have any way to know whether what he said about 'short term' is reliable or not. It may be, I just don't know

Something feels really weird here. Most likely is that the Clippers got cold feet and are having press guys run cover for their backing out.

My guess is they had some concerns about whether Brogdon should have had surgery (which would be a November/December return from now) and tried to use that to reduce their cost, Celtics just moved on now they're playing it up for the press.

That's much less ominous. Just seems like the midnight opt-out on KP as well as the draft today condensed the timeline too much.

It is interesting they pivoted to Smart trade - but maybe the plan was always to move both this offseason

Does Brogdon (plus filler?) for Paul George as a Posey type 2nd unit captain make any sense whatsoever?

This and Windy's tweet can't both be true. I guess Windy was carrying some water for LAC? Or maybe just got bad info.
I think you can reconcile the two if you emphasize Windy's use of "short term." I initially thought the tweet alluded to the chronic foot issue, but that's not a "short term: problem. So, it must be the elbow and some question as to whether he can be ready for the regular season. And you know how the Clippers hate to have their guys miss regular season games.

It's Jim Brogmire. Other teams are a bit reticent to take a guy who has a past of alcohol abuse and let's his personal life interfere with performance.

Surprised this thread made it so far without a Top Gun reference...regarding the player himself, can he be used in a more traditional PG role? I know his primary role was scoring last year, but the few years before with Indiana he had an assist % more in line with a distributor?
