Like seriously. This can't really be something they did, can it?

I'm done with Sweeney and Neely..... Just done. They are horrific
I mean, if this deal is real, it shows a complete lack of ability to judge NHL-level talent and compensate accordingly. They really do see Miller as a key component of their team if they give him this contract. Which is enough to make my eyes bleed.

Someone tell Cam and Don the 80s are over. My God.

I'm keeping the question mark in the thread title. It at least leaves the hope that this is all a joke.

I didn't think we'd find a worse deal than the McQuaid signing. Well, we have.

My post from the post-mortem thread:

I absolutely agree K. Miller should not be brought back with McQuaid on the roster. Not even a question to me.

With the Bruins belief on him, I have a different reaction. I think they value him, unfortunately, alarmingly more than we do. I don't just expect him to be back, I expect them to pay him $2.5-3m a year on a multi-year deal. I think they overvalue defenseman like him, and are going to be gun shy about "losing" him and "hurting their depth". I am legitimately afraid of this. Like little kids afraid of the dark stuff. It gets into my dreams. Also, I have problems.

The only hope I hold onto is that Neely drove the "tough to play against" thing that led to the Rinaldo and McQuaid deals. Now that he's under fire (and that strategy failed epically), I remain hopefulthey will move on from K. Miller. I just can't get myself to believe it.
I hate everything.

Are we sure it's not 4 years $2.5M total? Because then I guess I could shrug and deal with it at least.

They're trying to break me aren't they?

You could seriously find some jag who could play for like $750,000 and give you basically the same production as McQuaid and Miller. This is so ridiculous

Yep, there's a fundamental misunderstanding here about what it takes to put a winning team on the ice, and a frightening lack of imagination.

I'm just going to let them keep my seat deposits I think. No sense throwing good money after bad.

"We're looking to integrate young players in!"

/Re-signs Miller and brings back 5/6 of an aging, bottom 5 D Corp.

Bring back Chiarelli, please. What's next, trading Krug to keep Seidenberg?

$16.2 million tied up next year in Chara, McQuaid, Seidenberg, and Miller. That's unreal.

It's too bad; I used to have a lot of fun going to Bruins games.

Beyond everything else, he can't even stay healthy. If you're willing to overpay a "glue guy", at least find one who can stay on the ice (See also McQuaid).

Why couldn't you just have been TheFakeness?
I'm trying not to sob at my desk. I just bit he head off of a client and a co-worker. I think I need to send a company wide email to leave me alone for 24 hours while I try to cope with this.

It's. Just. So. Stupid.

I hate that our season ticket money is going to help pay for this. I want to throw up.

I get the Miller did seem to improve as the year went on, and his possession stats weren't half bad when compared to the rest of the stiffs behind the blue line. But the money that was thrown at him and McQuaid just shocks me.

Not sure if this is Sweeney; or Neely. But something seems to be amiss, and signings like this and McQuaid's make it appear that neither one understands the realities of today's NHL game.

I mean, like, what the fuck.

I like Kevin Millar, I really do, but at 1-2 years at $750k. Like, what the fuck, here. Four more years of Kevin Millar? What did he do last year that proved that kind of worth? Sign him to 1-2 years and see if he fucking improves and then sign him longer, right? What other team out there was offering anything close to that length of a contract besides NONE.

A 1-2 year deal does that trick and then reevaluate. What the fuck am I missing here?

Why did I renew my season tickets again. Sweeney has no clue what the hell he is doing.

Millar can at least draw a walk and has unquestionable clubhouse intangibles. I mean, the guys all love him. Cowboy up!

Oh :(

Cam and Don are stuck in the "glory days" of the 80s when they were Bruins.

Seriously, I think that's the issue here. They want to be "tough to play against," as if being fast and good with the puck isn't hard to play against. All they have to do is watch the playoffs this week to see fast, skilled teams competing. The Bruins are better in some areas than these teams: Pitt's goalie situation is a disaster, for example. But for the rest of the roster the Bruins are too slow, too careless with the puck.

In the 80s the Bruins loaded up on brute force on the blue line and used the advantage of their small rink to pummel teams into defeat. They also wanted guys who saw the Bruins as a favorable destination to play out their careers like it was in the 80s, never mind that today players have more choices and better FA and places to go like Tampa and Anaheim and Dallas if they want.

So Miller is a throwback to the 80s: physical, not too fast, happy to be in Boston, won't make waves, coach seems to like him. Cam and Don were only too happy to get rid of Hamilton because his parents/agent/dog were too intrusive on his life and like a lot of young players he got petulant. "Well fuck him then, we want guys who want to be BRUINS." Problem is, that doesn't work any more. Cam and Don don't see that.

It's a shame, because as players they really were great here, but I suspect Cam and Don are gonna take this team down the shitter in a big damn hurry. They don't get it.

It's somewhat cathartic to be this disgusted with the Bruins again. It's been a while. Reminds me of my younger days, when Thornton was traded for a garbage scow and two ponies, when Vincent Riendeau was starting playoff games, when Dmitri Kvartalnov was a 27 year-old 1st round pick and Evgeni Ryabchikov was the goalie of the future. Those were the days.

McQuaid: 4 years, 11 mil
Miller: 4 year 10 mil

At least they're going in the right direction in the contract. If they keep this trend up, in 7 years, they'll be signing a Kevan Miller or Adam McQuaid type 28 year old defenseman for 4 years, 3 million, which without inflation will be about what they're worth. Bruins in 2023!

At this point I think I just hope they hurry up and get there so we can get them out and maybe get a good pick and start over before it gets too bad. I hate myself.

You would think that Neely & Sweeney would flip on the TV and realize that guys like Kevan Miller and Adam McQuaid are dinosaurs in today's game. I look forward to the day that Charlie Jacobs realizes that the current management team is completely incompetent and should be immediately fired.

Probably April of next year when they miss the playoffs yet again, and have little to nothing as far as cap space and young developing players.

LOL, you wish. Next April is merely when Claude gets the boot and the wonder twins can finally install Their Guy on the bench to turn things around.

So disappointing.

No way is Kevan Millar worth this kind of deal. I figured he might even be released at the end of the season.

The Bruins have the worst GM in Boston.

You mean Mike Millbury?

Nothing worse than watching a formerly good team spiral downwards, and the steps management takes continue that spiral, while wasting the good talents that remain on the roster from the earlier days. Can't wait till they trade Pastrnak for that 4th line winger.
