That is essentially correct. If he clears, the team would have a 30-day window where they could assign him to Providence without needing waivers again.

Yeah, if he clears he'd still satisfy the draft rules. If someone claims him, they'll either have to extend Subban, sign some other goalie, or get Rask to waive his NMC to leave him unprotected.

Edit: I read the expansion draft goalie rules wrong. Subban qualifies without an extension, so nothing to see here. Buh bye Khudobin.

To confirm, this was waiving for the purposes of sending to Providence (and letting another team claim him if they want) and not waiving him for release and buying him out?

The former - there's no in-season buyout period, so waivers for the purposes of buyout would be in the summer.

Thanks!
Let me explore another hypothetical then.
Khudobin does not get claimed and spends the rest of the season in providence.
B's expose him to the Expansion Draft
He is not taken
B's then buy him out.

Is that possible? likely?

Re-entry waivers don't exist anymore. If they wanted him back, they would just call him up. He only needs waivers to go down.

Yes, Khudobin was the backup. He cleared waivers at noon yesterday. The team now has 30 days where they can assign him to Providence without having to place him back on waivers.

No official word yet, but the AHL site has listed Khudobin as being sent down to Providence; McIntyre called up to Boston on their transactions page.

The Bruins played some goalie musical chairs over the ASB, and the result is Khudobin is back in Boston and McIntyre is in Providence. Barring injury, I think Khudobin remains here for the rest of the season.

Khudobin made 7 starts during his Providence stint. He posted 2 shutouts, but his save percentage in the 7 games was .901, and he did get pulled in 1 game.

Not a very confidence inspiring AHL run from Khudobin. Looking like we'll have to run Rask into the ground again.
