While I can see an argument for Fultz, Ball, Tatum, Jackson, and Fox to go before Smith, the Bulls (in particular) and the Knicks are really going to regret passing on DSJ. Here's an article on him from Dallas: http://www.espn.com/nba/story/_/id/19958324/nba-dennis-smith-jr-future-dallas-mavericks.

He's 5-1 to win ROY. If I were in Vegas, I would put few bucks down on that.
I really hoped that part of the move in passing on Fultz and moving down was to try to trade back into the first round to grab Smith. I think he is going to be a good player.

Already ducking Fox...

Agreed, DSJ is looking great so far. Jackson has looked like we thought- bad FG% but very active and will get his stats. Good fit for Phoenix. Bam has looked good and a bunch more. This is a big rookie class for the future of the league. Lots of impact players. I think it's also safe to say that no matter the quality of any player or the group as a whole, most of the media coverage and attention is going to Ball.

Brown with post-up bucket, then Zizic with block on one end, Semi with nice drive, missed lay-up, but Zizic gets offensive board and bucket.

EDIT: and another offensive board and follow for Zizic..AND HE'S FOULED.

You guys are missing their best start. Tatum with left-handed lay-in after nice drive, Brown with block and Semi with three at other end.

Really nice to see these kids gel after just a few games. They are playing much more coherently together. That lefty coast to coast from Tatum - my goodness.

Brad's back in town. Wonder if Hayward is there on his way back to SD. We need a press conference.

Tatum's mom is great. "I've seen better. He missed that free throw. You know how I feel about that."

Zizic with 12 points/13 boards.

Tatum shooting off a bit (5 for 13), but has 12 and 6.

I was impressed by the young Sixers sans Fultz. Bolden and Drew played well, as did Luwawu. They kept up the defensive pressure for 40 minutes.
But the Celtics had too much talent.

Donovan Mitchell put up 37 with 8 steals. I saw parts of 3 Jazz games and he looked really good each time (it's only summer league).

Almost 21. One of the broadcasts talked about how he grew up a baseball player, made it sound like he was pretty raw.

I haven't finished the game yet but Jabari Bird had some nice plays including a put-back slam and a smooth 3P shot. I think he's going to be one of the two-way players.

1 assist though. Jacked up 24 shots and went to the line 16 times. Questions are about his shot and his decision-making.

He put up 37 on 24 shots and you want him passing the ball to summer league players? Seems like his decision making was on point tonight.
I dunno, seems like a decent idea - after all, isn't that what summer league is about?

At any rate, short clip of Brad talking about Tatum, JB, Ante, and Semi. Most of it is unsurprising but there are a couple of nuggets, like him saying that Zizac looks gassed, JB going to guarding 1s and 2s next year, and Semi going to compete to be one of the Cs "better defenders" next year right out of the gate.

Interesting clip, thanks for posting. With respect to having Jaylen guard more 1s this years, it sounded to me like that part of that is because they're losing Bradley ("obviously there's all kinds of roster movement and change and all those things, much of which I can't talk about"), wonder if that's the case and if that means he'll be playing in more lineups that Bradley would otherwise have been in.

I think so. Jaylen did start a bunch of games at the 2 last year while Bradley was injured.

Also, just looking at roster makeup, it would seem that the Celtics are going to play a lot of lineups featuring their taller wings (Brown, Hayward, Crowder, Tatum) which will mean that someone in that group will need to spend a lot of time guarding 2s.

SB Nation story on Tatum says:

It’s a scatter blast of missed mid-range jumpers with most of them coming out of isolation. After shooting 46.8% in Utah, his shooting has taken a hit in Vegas at 42.2%,
Oh no!

Wait--he's taken like 45 shots. Which means had he hit one less in Utah and one more in Vegas there would be essentially no difference.

He's 19/45 in Vegas and was 22/47 in Utah.

Trade him now Danny before the bottom falls out!

I love the fall-away he does but I'm worried that in the NBA against wings with NBA-level length and athleticism that shot is almost going to be a non-factor. I love watching him in Summer League but I have a feeling he is going to post a lot of ugly shooting games this year. Of course, the flip side is that in the regular season he will be playing with at least two creators at all times and will get many more open looks.

Simmons had a tweet yesterday about how Tatum was the one who most impressed other Summer League players.

Jordan Bell with a rare 5x5 last night for the Summer League Dubs: 5 points, 11 rebounds, 5 assists, 5 steals, 6 blocks.

NBA players who have hit those totals since they started keeping track in 1983-84: Hakeem Olajuwon (twice), Marcus Camby.

Despite a +27 for Bell, the SummerDubs fall to the SummerWolves in sudden death OT (most exciting sudden death OT since the Super Bowl, lolz), and will start the playoffs as the #22 seed at 6:30 pm, against ... the SummerWolves.

Winner of tonight's game faces the mighty SummerCeltics in round 2. :)

The guy whose offensive game Tatum most reminds me of is ... Kawhi Leonard.

Now if he only he can get to, like, 50% of Kawhi on defense...
