Tims give them a break, the players had a mandatory compliance class, but it was a paper class and attendance was optional
If accurate, appalling:
Karma is a b. They fired a very good football coach and fine man in Ralph Friedgen. The program has been roadkill ever since.
That entire coaching staff should be fired and never allowed to coach anywhere again. I'd be in favor of the death penalty for the Maryland football program as well. That shit should not be tolerated nowadays. Working a player to his death? Fuck every single one of them.
Between PSU, MSU, Maryland and OSU, the B1G looks pretty disgusting as a football conference.
I'm still pissed Brian Kelly still has a job.
HC Durkin places on admin leave at long last. MD spent most of today dodging that bullet while putting the underlings on leave.
That’s the mindset and rhat’s the problem.
Yeah, the headline pretty much captures what I think of this staff (and unfortunately the future big-time coaches who will aid in the death or serious injury of a kid).
and right on cue, Will Muschamp comes out with a fiery defense of Durkin.
Maybe Texas can beat a coachless Maryland team.
But yeah to hell with any coach like that.
Forget being fired - if the ESPN story is even remotely accurate, Durkin and his assistants should be charged.
Edit: I mean, fuck me, they have a kid who is obviously suffering from heat stroke and the response of the trainer is to order his teammates to pick him up, support him by the shoulder and “drag his ass across the field” so he could finish the drill. Because the trainer needs to impress upon all of them that literally nothing is more important than finishing the drill.
But that's not the most damming part of this entire fiasco. From the moment he displayed obvious symptoms of a heat stroke, they waited for almost an entire hour before calling 911. For now, we can only speculate on what they were thinking, but if the reporting on the culture is accurate, one can imagine them screaming profanities at McNair as he was convulsing on the ground before it began to sink in that he wasn't faking. And then - like the fraternity assholes at Penn State who allowed one of their pledges to die because they were afraid of the consequences - they tried every option they could think of before calling 911.
We'll eventually find out what happened during the "lost" hour, but putting that aside for now, how are their known actions not the textbook definition of depraved indifference?
Exactly what has MSU football done. Oh that’s right, Paula Lavigne fed a bunch of lies and everyone bought it because it was on the heels of Nassar. What that man did was awful and everyone at MSU that allowed it should pay. That said, MSU football and hoops has nothing to do with it. The shit in that ESPN hit piece was not close to accurate.
Barring a lightning strike, this seals Durkin’s tenure. The game’s over because he cannot recruit. Totally fair — HC is captain of the ship.
An appalling spectacle will then likely unfold. The family will hear about it from MD fanboys. Many of them are already getting their Penn State on.
ND is teasing wearing blue and white uniforms with pinstripes and blue helmets for the Syracuse game at Yankee Stadium on November 17th.
Well as always, fuck Notre Dame and fuck the Yankees
You're missing one from the triumvirate
Nope can't think of any
The judges were accepting Fuck Duke.
Oh I knew perfectly well what he was looking for
(I went to Duke)
You can get at least partial credit for Fuck the Dallas Cowboys, right?
Always. Fuck Michigan is also a given.
Why are we giving le Bleu Blanc et Rouge a pass here. As always, fuck le Canadiens.
And the Lakers.
MDs Board of Regents making sure Pres. Loh doesn’t Col. Jessup the investigation.
College football is back baby. If you aren't watching the Hawaii/Colorado State game, well, you should be. It was 37-7 Hawaii with less than 3 minutes to go in the 3rd. It's now 40-34 Hawaii with 4:42 to go in the fourth. CSU QB Carta-Samuels has 475 yards passing, 5td's, receivers are having monster games, and Hawaii QB, 400 yards passing, 73 yards rushing and 5 total td's himself. Nobody has any timeouts left. Oh, and it's in Colorado, so the stadium is going nuts.
Man, I'm so happy it's football season.
As a long suffering Umass fan, it was bizarre to 1. See them blow a team out (63-15, it was an FCS team, but still). 2. Have a winning record.
This feeling of optimism is weird.

BREAKING: Investigation finds University of Maryland culpable in death of football player Jordan McNair.
Clemson just flipped the depth chart at QB.
Trevor Lawrence is the starter versus Syracuse this Saturday. Kelly Bryant the backup. Chase Brice will be the backup.
Updating (one day later) since no new posts to thread
Kelly Bryant says he will RS and transfer. He'll be eligible wherever he lands next season as a graduate transfer.
DJ Durkin has been reinstated at Maryland.
Maryland is a complete joke. I hope no parent every sends their kid there. Ever.
Much to my astonishment - and I am guessing yours - this was backwards.
The Board of Regents apparently informed President Loh that if he fired Durkin, they would fire him. So Durkin is back.
It is my sincere wish that the remaining players refuse to continue under Durkin. It probably won’t happen, but a man can dream.
Reporedly, players walked out of Durkin's meeting. Off to a great start.
Does Durkin have pictures or something. People screw up for a lot less and get canned all the time. This guy oversees a dysfunctional program where a player died and this guy gets reinstated? Wow.
Not that this is even a reason to keep him, but the Terps are 10-15 with Durkin in charge. It’s not like they’re keeping some all-time program leader in wins or something. Like I said, not a reason to keep him. I’m shocked that Maryland would even consider bringing him back.
They can’t afford the buyout. The entry into the Big 10 hasn’t been the cash windfall they were expecting.
And incidentally they’ve been playing pretty well under OC/interim HC Matt Canada.
EDIT: I have no connection to the school but I live a few miles away. It’s a disgrace that they’re keeping Durkin.
I'm done. D-O-N-E.
Probably should have given up on college football after Brian Kelly. Or Penn State. Or Baylor. But better late than never.
If there's not a moral turpitude clause in his contract that could be triggered, UM needs to get new counsel.
He was fired. It shouldn't have taken this long.
Just coming to post that. Wallace Loh trying to go out with some integrity.
The Board of Regents at Maryland could not have acted more destructively if that had been their objective.
Having said that, a good day for the players.
the whole organization looks like a shitshow here. going to be some down times for awhile.
Serious circus. With a tent on fire and no ring leader.
This has been building for more than a decade with two disastrous AD hires. Debbie Yow followed by Kevin Anderson. The former alienated and ultimately ran offf a HOF caliber basketball coach, Gary Williams. The latter axed a beloved and very effective football coach, Ralph Friedgen. The basketball program is only beginning to get its legs back; the football program is in a death spiral.
Yesterday was about money. The Big 10 money has yet to kick in full force — Maryland, like Nebraska and Rutgers, is still getting only a fractional share, and Maryland paid heavily to exit the ACC. Yesterday was also about boosters — it always is, isn’t it?
Beyond a response to deafening outrage, I’ll be interested to see what today’s firing is about. It’s self evident that Durkin could not effectively recruit for the near future at least, and recruiting was one of his strengths. But that was equally true yesterday, when they voted to bring him back.
I’ve said for a while that 32 NFL owners took the place of the old Mob. If that’s the case, big college athletic programs are the American version of the new Russia. Yes, they are worse than the NFL.
If this was all about money, then the Board of Regents and/or President Loh should be sued for malpractice.
They had an ironclad case to fire Durkin for cause. And they destroyed that case by clearing, reinstating and then firing him in a 24 hour period.
I have no trouble believing that this was Loh giving the finger to Regents. And since he’s out the door anyway, the only answer is to sweep aside the entire BOR and start from scratch.
Board chair resigns.
And a outspoken punter was jumped in practice and had his shoulder seoerated and required stitches.
Wait, wait, wait. Are the attackers saying they beat up the backup punter because he was picking on other players?
How the hell did Texas lose to this team???
No, and in fact several players are disputing the story. It seems clear there was some sort of altercation between the starting and backup punter (?) but many are denying it had anything to do with Durkin.
And holy crap, the attacker, punter Wade Lees, appears to be a 30 year old Aussie! That's insane for a college athlete to be that old.
