Tims give them a break, the players had a mandatory compliance class, but it was a paper class and attendance was optional
If accurate, appalling:
Karma is a b. They fired a very good football coach and fine man in Ralph Friedgen. The program has been roadkill ever since.
That entire coaching staff should be fired and never allowed to coach anywhere again. I'd be in favor of the death penalty for the Maryland football program as well. That shit should not be tolerated nowadays. Working a player to his death? Fuck every single one of them.
Between PSU, MSU, Maryland and OSU, the B1G looks pretty disgusting as a football conference.
I'm still pissed Brian Kelly still has a job.
HC Durkin places on admin leave at long last. MD spent most of today dodging that bullet while putting the underlings on leave.
That’s the mindset and rhat’s the problem.
Yeah, the headline pretty much captures what I think of this staff (and unfortunately the future big-time coaches who will aid in the death or serious injury of a kid).
and right on cue, Will Muschamp comes out with a fiery defense of Durkin.
Maybe Texas can beat a coachless Maryland team.
But yeah to hell with any coach like that.
Forget being fired - if the ESPN story is even remotely accurate, Durkin and his assistants should be charged.
Edit: I mean, fuck me, they have a kid who is obviously suffering from heat stroke and the response of the trainer is to order his teammates to pick him up, support him by the shoulder and “drag his ass across the field” so he could finish the drill. Because the trainer needs to impress upon all of them that literally nothing is more important than finishing the drill.
But that's not the most damming part of this entire fiasco. From the moment he displayed obvious symptoms of a heat stroke, they waited for almost an entire hour before calling 911. For now, we can only speculate on what they were thinking, but if the reporting on the culture is accurate, one can imagine them screaming profanities at McNair as he was convulsing on the ground before it began to sink in that he wasn't faking. And then - like the fraternity assholes at Penn State who allowed one of their pledges to die because they were afraid of the consequences - they tried every option they could think of before calling 911.
We'll eventually find out what happened during the "lost" hour, but putting that aside for now, how are their known actions not the textbook definition of depraved indifference?
Exactly what has MSU football done. Oh that’s right, Paula Lavigne fed a bunch of lies and everyone bought it because it was on the heels of Nassar. What that man did was awful and everyone at MSU that allowed it should pay. That said, MSU football and hoops has nothing to do with it. The shit in that ESPN hit piece was not close to accurate.
Barring a lightning strike, this seals Durkin’s tenure. The game’s over because he cannot recruit. Totally fair — HC is captain of the ship.
An appalling spectacle will then likely unfold. The family will hear about it from MD fanboys. Many of them are already getting their Penn State on.
