I have 25mbps Internet through Comcast. I have a docsis 2 modem that has worked fine for over 2 years. I get the correct max speed on all speed tests.
For a few months, I have been getting calls and notices from Comcast saying that I should upgrade my modem for better speed. However, I am getting the speed I pay for.
Question 1: Am I wrong to ignore this?
Also, 3 days ago I lost access to an online trading account using my home Comcast Internet. It works fine on 4g and elsewhere. No changes to modem or router. I tried connecting directly to modem, still doesn't work. Called tech support for the trading account and they can't figure it out.
I called Comcast and they said it is because the cable modem is end of life. They said I will slowly lose access to specific websites one at a time, and replacing the modem will fix this. Sounds like BS to me.
Question 2: Are they lying to me, or is this actually possible?
