Below i will post a direct copy of 2 threads i read from my fav UVA website. It will be a true story and a exact quote from a poster from the UVA board (not me). I lost a close friend over 10 years ago to brain cancer so it hits home a little. :

First Post:
Curt Schilling is now my favorite athlete of all time

As some of you may recall, my nephew passed a way from a childhood brain tumor called DIPG. 100% fatal, no cure, and hardly any research as only about 100 kids a year get it. Almost all research dollars are raised by families of kids who get the cancer.

Anyway, my nephew got to meet Curt Schilling while he was ill. He and his family, who live in RI, got to go to a Bosox game and meet the players. This was years ago.

Out of the blue yesterday, Curt follows up with my brother-in-law, and says he's glad he continued playing through 38 so that he got a chance to meet my nephew Evan. Very cool.

Our family has an annual fundraiser for cancer research for DIPG. Our goal is $150K this year, and we are almost there. If you can spare it, please consider donating at the link below.

Please donate to Evan's Crew: http://profile.pmc.org/te0051

FYI - I edited out the second post that garlan5 copied here as it had nothing to do with the charity - abs

edit: edited his misspelling

While I certainly sympathize and respect the cause, are posts asking for donations typically cool here? Honestly not sure.

EDIT: *looks down a post* -- OK, cool!

The cause is absolutely worthy, Brain tumors are awful and the more money for research or to help people with them the better.

Any chance we can just say Evan was a red sox fan, and cared for by Dana Farber, and every penny helps support! Honestly the title of the thread and the copy makes me want to NOT donate to what is a very very worthy cause as schilling's propaganda has caused hurt and harm to people I care about.

The point of the thread was to just tell a story of something that happened when dealing with childhood cancer and it happened to be a former Sox player involved. I had the unfortunate experience of losing a friend from brain cancer, he was only 27. The same year i learned my young niece (5) developed a rare form of cancer. She beat it, this kid didn't. It reminds me how lucky I am. I read this post in a local fan site and I thought others might appreciate it. I chose to copy and paste and I was hoping to just share a good story written in the original context. If you dont like it why not just disregard. Abs' informed me that i might catch some flack on it due to Schilling but that doesn't bother me. There are far worse things on this site.

I will say this, if Curt promises to do anything for the campaign, don't count on the money being there until it's deposited.

That said, this is certainly a worthy cause.

I didn't think that was unusual since i've seen many posts of people selling/buying stuff on this site especially for their kids school and fundraisers. I didn't figure suggesting to donate to a good cause would be an issue. apparently it needs to be approved. Though my original post did say to donate, i was mainly posting here to tell the background story of Evan and his connection to a former Sox player and thought it would be cool if people donated (if they wanted). I dont personally know the original poster other than seeing his posts in a local sports forum. I merely thought it was cool that 7 years after Evan's diagnosis and passing Curt would call the dad up.

Honestly this is the first positive thing I’ve seen in a long time regarding Curt. Good on him for actually following up.

I don’t like almost everything he’s done since retirement but this stands out in a good way.

Yeah, I know people don't love him but it was a really nice gesture. I remember the feeling of losing my friend and how his family felt. Then I learned how it felt to lesser a degree with my niece, twice. Thankfully she's a two time survivor of two rare cancers the latter was a resultof treatment which caused the kidney cancer and subsequent transplant. Evans friends and family have to live without him for the rest of their lives. I'm sure it was a good feeling to hear from curt. It's childhood cancer awareness month too. I was just happy to share Evans small story even though I didn't know him.
