The final words in the bio, I did on him. "Perhaps the final word on Dick Gernert should be given to the late Ted Williams who, in a conversation with Nova Scotian author Jim Prime, said of his former teammate: “He is kind of a hero up there in Nova Scotia, isn’t he? A hell of a guy, a pretty good hitter… just a great guy!”

Dick Gernert was also a member of the 1950 Scranton (EL) club along with Piper Davis (who I mentioned in another thread. It's possible that they brought Gernert up from C-level right around the time they released Davis.

My recollection is that Gernert usually batted fourth right behind Ted Williams in 1956-58, while sharing first base with Mickey Vernon, while Jackie Jensen, a superior hitter and AL MVP in 1958, usually batted fifth. I never understood why Mike Higgins placed the better batter lower in the order, but then there were many things Higgins did that I didn't understand.
