I have no clue as to the veracity of this site or others that are reporting that the Raiders threw, or at least played to a less-than-honest level in last Sunday's game. But it is receiving some press.

Edit: Of course, this very well could be click bait, so I apologize if it turns out to be nothing.

I'm not sure I'd classify a website with a "culture wars" section as being part of the actual, honest-to-God press.

Those sites are fucking batshit insane.

Is non-gambling throwing/fixing of the game illegal? The 49ers threw the last game of the season in 1988 without repercussions. It happens all the time in international football (e.g. the Japanese women's team at the London Olympics) and obviously the NBA.

That's without getting into cases like the Harlem Globetrotters--I'm not sure if and when their legal status shifted, but they transitioned from playing serious basketball to clearly fixed entertainment. Were they somehow legally liable when they started working in the entertainment stuff? Are they still?

The thread title is a little misleading. If it happened, it wasn't the Raiders, as a team, deciding to throw the game, but the offensive line deciding that if the QB didn't have their backs, they wouldn't have his.

Watching that game, it felt like the Redskins knew what Oakland was running on every play. I thought it was real strange when I was watching it live but then quickly forgot about it after.

I'd gp with a shadowy attack on the sanctity of the NFL by sources of less than known origin.

Who would have a grudge against the NFL, and who would plant false stories about the Raiders?

Usually don't like to lock threads, but this just about does it.
