around the way
It's crazy talk. No complaints with folks running the numbers, but that game was pretty damn well done. Refs were light on the whistles all game. This suited the Celts just fine, as they were clearly more physical all night, particularly with Thompson. Nothing to see here.

What was his excuse for the first half last night?

Also, this sounds like Deron Williams was sick and Lebron needed some reason to explain his own low energy:

"I know he won't talk about it, so I'll give my big guy a shout," Jefferson said. "Deron Williams missed shootaround this morning because he had like a little bug, really lethargic, had no energy. And I think that's what 'Bron had. And sometimes these little bugs can go around. And [James] was like, dude when Deron didn't show up to shootaround, it kind of started clicking in his head. Because for him it was like, 'I don't know why I was so lethargic, why I had no energy, I had nothing.'

Jeez. Here's hoping Bryan Doo spends some significant time researching hip strengthening exercises this offseason.

Seriously. If I had three young players all present with hip pointers in the same season that would trigger a complete review of my training regimen.

Sure, it could be black swan event (on top of Avery's potentially having a predisposition) but I would deconstruct my methodology nonetheless.

I don't think it's a strength and conditioning issue. In IT's case, the toll he takes going through the lane and getting knocked down as much as he does is a big contributor. With Brown, I'm not sure if he just fell on it or what happened.

Ainge on @Toucherandrich said Jaylen Brown was "in a lot of pain” Wed and it’s "questionable whether he’ll be able to play tonight” in Gm 5.

Hip pointers are a contusion of the tissues and surrounding muscles over the iliac
crest. They are really really painful and cannot be prevented by strengthening the hip muscles. I protect mine by having a nice layer of adipose tissue over them.

Oh, and I don't dive for loose balls. These are injuries due to playing hard and being willing to sacrifice your body.

Safety first!

As to the rash of hip injuries, while I don't have any particular insight from a medical perspective, this is a relatively uncommon NBA event as far as I'm aware and I would imagine that there is something a training staff could do to help.

Michael Jordan was sick during a playoff game once. Also, one time Larry Bird was literally playing with a broken back and then literally got knocked out. Boo hoo hoo.
I feel like there have been a number of games where Lebron has tried to have his 'MJ had a cold' game. Guy wants to cement his legacy...sadly he hasn't really had an EC opponent for years.

I dunno about this. LeBron spent Games 3 and 4 deferring to Love and Kyrie. At now point did he looks like he was trying to outshine MJ.....he wasn't even trying to outshine Love.

All I meant was that at times it's felt that LeBron has played up any illness in games.. although admittedly the guy is probably usually exhausted given that he plays so many minutes and has played so many. It just looks at times that he's trying to be MJ, and part of MJ is the game where he had a crazy cold, but still played.

The other problem LeBron has had is that he's been the most dominant player in the EC for a decade, but a decade where he hasn't really had all that much to play against. Unlike the era Jordan played in where the East was dominant. I wonder about, and look forward to, the time after LeBron has retired and there's a little bit of distance in which to view and judge his career.

Hard to say Lebron played up the illness when it was another player that told everyone about it.

I post in Game Threads at CelticsNuts and had two comments from Game 4 in regards to LeBron looking off that I'll copy and past below.......so hearing Jefferson speak of this isn't surprising to me at all.

LeBron turning back the clock......to 2008!
My college coach always used to get on individual players for having "the glare"........"the glare" is that blank look when you aren't emotionally engaged in a game or a practice. We've seen LeBron with "the glare" years ago and it is rearing its head tonight. Losing Olynyk on the backdoor to begin the half was one, zero emotion following his dunk was another.

"The Glare!!!!"
LeBron doesn't miss dunks or get stripped. Something is up with this guy. He's either flat out choking tonight or is suffering from an Isaiah-like injury.
