Per MLBtraderumors:
The Marlins have a “handshake agreement” in place to sell the team to a New York-based real estate developer for the price of $1.6 billion, reports Mike Ozanian of Forbes. Ozanian cites two anonymous sources that claim to have been told by Marlins president David Samson that the deal is in place. The $1.6 billion price tag would be more than 10 times the $158MM price at which owner Jeffrey Loria purchased the team back in 2002.

Not a bad return on investment.

From the Forbes article:
My sources would not say who the $1.6 billion handshake agreement was with other than he is a real estate developer based in New York City. The problem, according to these sources, is the potential buyer is not liquid, meaning he does not have the cash to buy the Marlins because his net worth is tied up in real estate. Thus, for the real estate developer to purchase the Marlins would likely require more debt than MLB would be comfortable with.

It makes me think that MLB won't approve this

From a ESPN Post: "Forget about his son and the relationship with the President for a moment. Mr Kushner plead guilty to 18 counts of tax evasion, witness tampering and making illegal campaign donations. He served two years in federal prison. Is this who MLB wants in an ownership group? I realize Mr Haslam of the Cleveland Browns has had his troubles, but he never spent time inside a federal prison."

Loria sucks and has been a shitty owner. And for all that, he looks to cash in big time.

I don't think Kushner will be the guy to buy him out though.

Loria should have spent time in jail after the way he manipulated Miami into giving him a free stadium. Jesus.

Jeter and Jeb Bush teaming up to buy the marlins

Jeb Bush and Derek Jeter have joined forces in their bid to buy the Miami Marlins, according to sources familiar with the talks.

The former Florida governor and retired New York Yankees star once were rivals for the Major League Baseball franchise but now have teamed up to try and buy the team, the sources said. They are competing against a New York financier named Wayne Rothbaum, manager of Quogue Capital, a source close to the situation said. It is not known if other would-be suitors of the Marlins remain in the hunt.

The alliance pairs one of Miami’s most prominent political leaders — Bush lives in Coral Gables — with one of the most famous names in baseball. Jeter retired from the Yankees in 2014 and has a house in Tampa.
