Fitbit issues

So....I have this Fitbit device I've owned for approximately 2 years which I wear only when exercising which is 4-5 times weekly for an hour. Worked great up until 2 months ago when an issue began with not holding a charge for more than a day. Then the heart rate monitor began to work intermittently. Currently it turns off then back on every several minutes or so resulting in virtually worthless data it might collect as it's incomplete.

The device is only warrantied for a year (unless you purchase the extended version) so I'm outa luck there. Fitbit does not offer a repair service on these things which pisses me off.

What I'm curious to know is what went wrong....software? hardware? both? Thoughts/ comments?

I highly recommend calling their customer service. My wife has done so multiple times about her various devices (she's on her third now, they replaced the first two that didn't last a year for free) and their customer service has bent over backwards for her. We're not impressed by the quality of their devices but their service is great.

She just called earlier this week because her's had stopped charging (this one has lasted over a year). They walked her through resetting it and that fixed the issue. They also offered her 25% off a new one but it didn't apply to their smartwatches, and when my wife explained that she was going to replace her Fitbit with a smartwatch eventually they found her a discount on their smartwatches.

But back to your issue, in our experience the quality of the Fitbits is not particularly good. 2 years might be all you can expect from one.

I have had occasional problems with my Fitbit Charge 2 and each time the problems have been cleared up by a reset. For the charge 2, I set it up to charge and, while charging, I press and hold the side button until the screen show the version number. After that, my charging/syncing/heart rate issues cleared up. YMMV

Update...Fitbit customer service was an exercise in futility so I mailed the device to their corporate headquarters in San Francisco along with a note stating that despite it being out of warranty it was used only when exercising which amounted to an average of 2 hours a day. I failed to hear from them after they had received it to 2 days earlier so I called and left a message. I received a call the following day where I was offered a Fitbit Charge 2 as a replacement.

note: The replacement has no warranty nor can one be purchased for it.

So they offered to replace product you bought, that is out of warranty....and you’re upset the replacement will not have a warranty?

Shouldn’t you simply he happy they’re willing to replace something they have absolutely zero responsibility for at this point?

You make the assumption I'm not "happy"....that is incorrect.

When I purchase something I want what I pay for, nothing more, nothing less, period! The item was slightly used and failed long before it should've due to a poor design IMO. I am more lucky than happy in this matter due to being relentless over this matter.

The final comment in my previous post regarding the warranty was added only as a matter of fact.
