One of the worst NBA injuries I've seen. Not speculating but this left leg/ankle issue should keep him off the court for quite some time. More pressure on Smart/Tatum/Brown to replace the lost points and keep the spacing they were hoping for. Maybe another roster move to come as well. Hope for the best.

Sucks. Feel so bad for him and the whole rebuild we’ve been building to for five years probably just exploded after five minutes.

Depending on ligament issues with the ankle, that could be a career altering/endinh injury.

T&P with him. This mirrors how I felt when Tom went down in week 1 of 2008. From pure excitement to deflation. I had DVR'd the game to fast forward through commercials, but after the injury I couldnt muster the will to watch. I just fast forwarded to live TV and feel crestfallen. Poor fucking guy.

At this point I'm pulling for just season-ending and not career-ending. I feel like I've been punched in the throat and can't even imagine what he's going through

My 12 year old is inconsolable right now. He LOVES the Celtics and was so excited for this season. He came running out of the room screaming, "oh my god, oh my god! Hayward just hurt his leg. I told him to settle down and then saw it. Just brutal.

I feel so bad for him.

Team announced it as a fracture, so I think we can all but eliminate DRS' possibility.

CSN Halftime doctor also saying optimistically he could be back in March (obviously no guarantee on 100%). going to hospital now and likely surgery tonight. Basically what the rest of the tweets are saying, likely season ending but optimistic on being ready next season.

Pretty fucking awful, fuck sports but it might not be worst case. and too early to really have any solid prognosis.

Shane Larkin broke his ankle his rookie year and missed four months.

Assuming there are no complications, four-to-six months would put Hayward into mid-Feb to mid-April. So, post-All-Star break could be best case, last 4-5 games of season could be medium case and next season could be worst case. Obviously, won't know until he has surgery to know if there are ligament issues or other complications.

Brutal. The video is stomach churning, the implications for the team this year and beyond are chilling.

This is why we should treasure nice things when we get them because you never know if they're only going to last five minutes.

About 20 minutes after the injury I would've been ecstatic with him back at 100% around Christmas 2018. If he returns this season, which my gut still tells me is wildly optimistic, I would be some bizarre mix of ecstatic and incredulous. And nervous as shit any time he elevated.

I don't buy the overly optimistic March timeline or comps to other guys, neither of those was dislocated to the degree of Hayward. I'm assuming he misses the full year and would be pleasantly surprised if he was close enough by playoff roster time to make it a tough decision.

Edit- Also the Celtics might just shelve him for the year and use the disabled player exemption to replace him ($8.4M or so?)

I had a compete fracture of my left ankle that required surgery and I was running less than 5 months later.

I had an avulsion fracture of the fibula, and have never run again.
Right, every injury is different. But the point it broken ankle doesn't necessarily mean season over. I had a plate put into my ankle and the 4+ month recovery was right on track, it's not like I was a miraculous healer.

Doctor on CSNNE saying could be 4-5 months before he returns, maybe even 3-4 months until he's resuming basketball activities. Says these injuries "tend to progress predictably." Assuming no ligament damage, etc.

He's NOT going to be resuming basketball activities in 3-4 months. And disregard the reports of a "clean" break with no ligament damage - there is absolutely, 100% ligament damage.

Running is nothing like jumping and I'm guessing you don't jump like an NBA player.

The macro of this, this team was built to own the league in 2-3 years and maybe steal a title before that. If he’s full speed one year from tonight we are fine. This year is about Tatum, Brown and Kyrie becoming the alpha he wanted to be. But heartbroken doesn’t begin to describe how I feel for Gordon.
