If you use uTorrent...

Using current versions of uTorrent has meant bloatware, ads and unwanted additional software. Now their latest versions are installing Epic Scale, a cryprocurrency mining tool that runs in the background, slows your machine and generates revenue for....Epic Scale. Worse, while uTorrent admits they have added this, they insist it's revealed in the install/update and you get the opportunity to opt out... except that's not true and many have been subjected to a silent install.

The solution is NOT to use some addon that tries to clean up or block what uTorrent is doing.... the solution is simply uTorrent 2.2.1, the last version that was free of ads and crapware. There is absoluitely NO useful addition or feature to any later version, despite claims by BitTorrent (the makers of uTorrent).

You can find Version 2.2.1 here, just don't allow upgrades after install:

I think it's probably best to find a client that's not shady if you need to torrent.

And they're not ALWAYS used for stealing.  I've used some legit ones in the past.  But yeah, most of the time.

qbittorrent and Deluge are both good alternatives to uTorrent, open source, use minimal system resources and available on Linux, Windows and Mac.

Having to intentionally use an old version without ever upgrading is not a good idea for many reasons.

I have just recently switched to qbittorrent and it's a very good client, easy to use and similar interface to utorrent. I would recommend it.
