Porzingis seems like more than the Knicks could have hoped. Immediate production and lots of projection for future improvement. Not sure if Jackson can thread the needle and grab the free agents next year that will allow the Knicks to truly compete with Porzingis on the upswing and Anthony inevitably heading down (tho he's obviously better this year than last). Sure increases their chances of doing so if the Knicks are semi-competitive this year and seen as being on the rise.

In any case, Porzingis as well as complementary players like Grant and Galloway are big step up from the bad contracts that Jackson has managed to dump.

Yeah, if they could ever get a real starting PG, they'd be a semi-legit team. Porzingis is a force of nature, a potential franchise player if he stays healthy (very rare at that size). Everyone wants to compare him to Dirk, but he's 7'3", like a much more athletic/mobile Rik Smits who can hold his own when switched onto PGs at the perimeter.

Looking through the list of upcoming free agents, their number one target should be Mike Conley. Memphis is struggling early this year, Randolph's past his peak, and a Conley/Melo/Porzingis/Lopez is nothing to scoff at in the East.

NY wins on back to back nights in OKC (without Durant) and in HOU (without Howard, but Capela had a career-best game before fouling out).

The interesting takeaway is that Porzingis was pretty invisible in OKC but Melo carried them, then tonight Melo was mostly a non-factor, but Porzingis had maybe his best game yet, 24/14 and 7 blocks, many of which were while playing C against HOU's small lineups. Someone posted on Twitter that NY is 4th in the league on defense with Porzingis on the floor, 23rd with him on the bench. The kid is incredible.

Porzingis has put up 29/11 and 24/14/7 in two of his past three games. I loved the top of this draft so damn much with the one exception of D'Angelo Russell......and the Lakers passed on both Okafor and Porzingis to select a point guard whose job responsibility by definition is that of a complementary player. I love when the Lakers do dumb shit.

He moves his feet better than most guys who are 6'10. He swallows drives and seems to have a pretty good handle on team defense, too.

The East should be scared. Knicks are a couple of good players away from threatening LeBron & co (that and they need to staple Calderon to the bench, or at least the corner), and lord knows Phil won't want to wait.

He's reportedly a very hard worker who is dedicated to his craft which goes very far to reaching ones potential. The downside is that at 7-3 he is susceptible to the 7-1+ foot problems that come with the territory.

Knicks staying on the fringes of the playoff race, salvaging a brutal stretch of 11 straight games above .500 teams (7 of those on the road) by winning 3 games in 4 days, home against ATL on Sunday, and then @ATL and @MIA the last two nights.

The team is beginning to gel, especially the starting lineup, Afflalo with 38 on just 17 shots on Sunday, Melo cutting down his shots and upping his assists, and Lopez and Porzingis slowly learning how to work together. Their next game is in San Antonio, presumably an automatic loss, but then the schedule lightens up again.

Jackson's done a good job so far. Cleared both cap space and nut jobs. Kept his star and got him to buy into the program. Hit on his big draft pick and also okay on getting complementary players -- not sure if Grant will amount to much, though. And done well in the free agent market with Lopez and Afflalo. Monroe would have been better than Lopez, but Jackson seems to know which players fit and which don't.

A .500 record this year will put the Knicks in position to use some of their cap space next off-season.

Kerr was obviously a good first choice as a coach, is Fisher alright?

Not sure about Fisher, I would say he's been average at best so far, but he does seem to maybe be learning. One big reason for this recent hot streak is that he finally cut down and solidified the rotation, more minutes for Lopez and Derrick Williams and bozos like Seraphim and Vujacic with DNPs.

Knicks playing better than anyone thought they might this year, 5-1 in their last 6 with the one loss 100-99 in San Antonio where they had a reasonably good look (Calderon from the corner) to win at the buzzer. Melo has been looking to pass more than ever before, and he and Porzingis are beginning to develop some real offensive chemistry (28 points combined in the first quarter last night on 11-14 shooting). Melo sprained his ankle last night stepping on the ref's foot, and I'm guessing will sit tonight against Brooklyn, but be back for their next game in MEM on Saturday.

Celtic fans got to witness one of Porzingis' strongest games yet, 16 points in the first quarter including a ridiculous 30 foot heat check 3 pointer from straight away, and on the other end, a defensive disruptor on almost every possession he was out there. After testing him a good bit early on, BOS had more than a few drives where instead of attacking him, they turned around and passed it out or took an awkward fallaway. If he stays healthy, there's really nothing he can't do (he hasn't done a ton of passing yet, but has shown some real skills there too at times). I thought it was interesting that BOS had some success against him by putting Smart on him, that's something a real PG could exploit easily but NY doesn't really have that guy to consistently get KP the ball.

They were scuffling along around .500 and looking at least OK until this recent 1-9 stretch, and now are out of the playoff picture for this year unless they find a way to get it going soon.

And now Dennis Rodman is working the Twitter trying to make the case for himself as the new Knicks coach.... I personally think Phil needs to make that happen.

The best (currently) available coach wants to work for James Dolan. The Knicks should be all over this.
On top of all else that has befallen the franchise, it's kind of funny that the Nets have to compete with the Knicks for all of the same things this offseason and will be the lesser option in every instance.

Has to be Walton. Hard worker and young enough to connect to the players.
Walton may not want it. Between an involved GM and the fickle owner - not to mention irrational/outsized media attention - there's a lot not to like about going from GSW to NYK. Someone on some podcast late last week (Woj? Lowe? I can't remember - I listened to like a dozen) implied Walton would be very careful about the next destination.

Read: "Sources.....errrr, Thibs agent.....are looking to for the best paying job with the least amount of rebuilding time and indicate that Thibs would love this job."

The Knicks are a playoff team next year with an older Godzingis, presumably a quality PG in Conley, still have Melo, and another offseason with plenty of money to add other pieces. Everyone wants this job.

I would love to see Thibodeau coach the Knicks. Hope Jackson makes it happen.
The problem is that Jackson is committed to the Triangle offense and someone like Brian Shaw or Luke Walton who has had years of experience both playing it and coaching it. Rambis does as well and is an ideal placeholder for the remainder of the year as Golden State is never going to allow Walton out of his contract in the middle of the season with Kerr's uncertain health. Shaw, if you recall, was Jackson's choice to replace him in LA years ago.

Zen Master to Melo: drop dead!

So Phil tells the press that Carmelo is a losing loser who loses and would be better off losing somewhere else, then Portzingis blows off his exit interview with Jackson because the Knicks are losing losers who lose, and he's sick of it.

Perhaps the Cs could take advantage of this shitshow and land O'Quinn or Hernangomez by acting as facilitator for a third team in a Carmelo deal? Eh, on second thought, it's enough to just appreciate the Knicks' dysfunction in own right. Just another day in Dolanland.

Danny should try for sure but realistically, the cost will be huge and there is likely a division premium for the Cs as a trade partner too.

The Knicks say no, very quickly. I think Porzingis is near enough to untouchable that the baseline cost would start with both Brooklyn picks, and that's assuming this year's pick is #1. If it's not, they'd probably want Jaylen or multiple other assets.

Probably but taking Melo off their hands clears their cap, which has some value. I'd consider dealing both Nets picks in a deal for Porzingis.

I tend to doubt Isola here, and I doubt Phil would deal with the Celtics ... but in the interest of noise

Matt Boutwell‏ @MattyinMaine 2h2 hours ago
.@FisolaNYDN on WFAN a moment ago thinks Knicks would trade Porzingis for "a top pick and player".
Sure it's unlikely but I bet Phil would think for a little bit if offered Jaylen/Nets 2017 for Porzingis.

Would give the Knicks are a core of Jaylen, 2 top 6 picks this year, and Hernangomez.

Oh, for certain there are things to like from the Knicks angle. I've just always felt that Phil always has had a burr in his saddle about the Celtics. I think even trading in division doesn't matter as much to him as the Celtics bias

I bet he would think, but he could probably get more than that for Porzingis.

I would give more than that for him. Not sure what, but would have no problem adding Bradley or the MEM pick

Who has more to offer than Jaylen and one of Fultz/Ball/Jackson/Tatum without gutting their team?
