We may need a thread just for NHL Team tweets. Saw two awesome ones about the Chargers moving to LA:

Sadly, that second one is ruined since the NFL deleted their tweet of the Chargers new logo.

I guess beating the B's 4-0 wasn't good enough. Capuano fired after 6ish years on the job. AGM Doug Weight takes over as interim head coach.

Bruins will likely be without Marchand for a while. I missed it last night, but he's getting dragged into DPOS for a trip / slewfoot on Kronwall last.

I mean by definition that's not a slew foot. DPS has repeatedly said slew foot is a trip from behind while tying up the upper body as to not allow a player to brace their fall.

It's a trip. Not sure how they're suspending players for a trip at this point.

Except Marchand's developed a pretty nasty reputation in the league, so he may get suspended just because. It's not fair, but Marchand's closer to Matt Cooke than Paul Kariya in DPS' eyes.

Yet the DPS has said repeatedly that reputation does not come into play unless it is determined to be a suspendable offense, and then it factors into the suspension. Either an action is suspendable or it isn't. If 2 players do the same thing, 1 isn't suspended due to past history and another gets away with it.

This action is clearly not suspendable based on their past situations. There's really no grey area here and if he gets suspended it's a complete joke.

So this:

and this:

need to be treated the same. Both players should be punished or it should be deemed legal.

Now, if it's determined to be a punishable offense, then I would expect the severity of the punishment to vary.

I don't think we're really arguing here. I'm just bracing for the fact that the narrative around Marchand outside of New England is "bigtime dirty player," and that DPS isn't immune to this. I'll enjoy being proven wrong, but I don't have a good feeling it'll happen.

We're not arguing. I'm pre-emptively getting angry at DPS and it's bleeding into my writing. I'm basically addressing them right now, because I know they're gonna fuck this up.

Oh he is definitely getting suspended, no doubt about it. Only because his name is Brad Marchand.

I was going to link the Tkachuk one. Don't believe he even got a phone call from DPOS.

Go listen to the DPOS podcast on Puck Soup with Wyshynski and Lozo. They spent about 20 minutes condescending explaining the position I wrote above, and now they're going to complete ignore it and come up with some ridiculous explanation for it. It's infuriating.

Whether it is suspendable or not, can we at least agree that it was a stupid play by Marchand? I mean wtf is he doing there? That was completely pointless and unnecessary and he shows once again that he has a tendency to make a lot of moronic choices out there sometimes.

Today's Marchand is a much "cleaner" player than the young Marchand, but slewfooting is some nasty shit. This isn't the first time he's done it.

That said, yeah, his rep will definitely be a bigger factor in the suspension decision than the slewfoot.
