McKenzie s reporting that Marchessault is close to an extension with VGK. 6 years ~$5mm AAV.

Edit: Should be noted that Florida basically gave Marchessault away for nothing. Basically used him to get rid of Reilly Smith’s contract, which really isn’t a bad contract.

Smith has 10-21 and is a +14. Not a bad contract at all...

I kept meaning to say something before the year started about how I thought Vegas might actually be a pretty decent team but I kept getting distracted by more important things like the amount of lint in my belly button. Every week they keep this up I get madder at myself. It's been fun to watch.

Chicago has done some shuffling on the blue line the past few days, waiving Franson and calling guys up. Apparently with the dust settled, Brent Seabrook will bea healthy scratch tonight. 6 more years at $6.8 mm AAV left on his contract. Woof.

Chicago dealt Richard Panik and Laurent Dauphin to Arizona for Anthony Duclair and Adam Clendening. No salary retention either way.

I don’t love Duclair, but that seems like a pretty underwhelming return for Arizona.

Well yeah unless the Caps or Rags become the crossover team. Then I'm not so sure we'd want that.

I agree with you, I'm perfectly comfortable with a first round series against Toronto.

Jack Johnson, citing a dramatically diminished role this season and a desire to better position himself for free agency in the summer, has asked the Blue Jackets to be traded, sources have confirmed to The Athletic.

He's in a contract year, and his next contract won't be helped by the fact he's averaging less then 20 min TOI for the first time in his career. And he needs the dough.

San Jose put Paul Martin on waivers. 2/$4.8 AAV contract.

NYR loses Shattenkirk to a meniscus tear. Out indefinitely.

Interesting season for the Rangers. They are currently holding on to a WC spot thanks mostly to Hank. Despite that, Friedman/McKenzie have been speculating that they could be sellers at the deadline and even listen on or move guys like McDonagh and Zuccarello. Could be an interesting 5 weeks for them.

His optimistic tone at the end really cheered me. That man has been through hell. May he have a long and happy career coaching kids.

Per Aaron Portzline, Brandon Dubinsky’s been sent home.

Lots of replies to that tweet imply a problem with nose candy.

Not the best look on the heels of Tortorella's comments about turning his players loose in Vegas... wonder if there's any connection

PHWA did some mid-season award voting. Results:

Kind of a fun All Star break type discussion. I don’t think there are any major whiffs.

Cassidy should be in the top 3 of the Jack Adams (but not 1st), but that's about it.

Have to think Gallant/McPhee are no doubt slam dunks barring some truly major and unprecedented collapse.

The NHL announced several regular and pre-season games in Europe, and pre-season games in China for next season.
They haven't announced the teams for China, but announcers during the All-Star skills match said it's rumored to be the B's and Flames.

Given the B's partnership with ORG and their multiple trips over the past couple summers, I think they're probably a lock to go to China every chance they get.

Jagr’s NHL days appear over. Cleared waivers and is headed to the Czech league.

I enjoyed reading Greg Wyshinski's article for ESPN today about Mike Green. It meanders through a number of topics including his style of play, how he was an advanced stat darling before people knew they wanted that, and some thoughts on his trade possibilities as the deadline approaches. Good hire for ESPN, they sorely lacked NHL journalists since their June purge. (as opposed to reporters, which I admit he is too, but I think his major strength is his writing.

After a couple of decades with DirecTV, I cut the cord in October. A couple of weeks ago I took the plunge and added NHL.tv at the $49.99 mid-season sale price. The picture at 60-frames is fantastic, I hope I can expect MLB.tv's streaming look to be similar in the spring.

I'm watching on 4K Apple TV's and was wondering if the interface on other streaming devices allows you to view more than 2 games at once, or is it the same over all the various supported device platforms? The 4-game mosaic feature on the ESPN and FOX apps is nice. The NHL.tv mosaic option I see just adds overhead goalie cams or other camera angles on the ATV.
