Wait, so does that mean under certain circumstances the Patriots would get no pick? Either way, I think it's fair value, I'm just curious.Rap Sheet says a conditional 7th for Richards.
Not sure. Maybe it turns into a 2020 7th if he isn't on the roster for a certain percentage of games. This means he was getting cut if they couldn't trade him. I thought his ST value would save him.Wait, so does that mean under certain circumstances the Patriots would get no pick? Either way, I think it's fair value, I'm just curious.
My guess is that if he makes the Falcons roster, the pick conveys. Otherwise, nothing.Wait, so does that mean under certain circumstances the Patriots would get no pick? Either way, I think it's fair value, I'm just curious.

Was he significantly better than any of our other DB's on St's?I thought his ST value would save him.
He led the team in ST snaps last year by a significant margin (of course, both Slater and Ebner were hurt). Was he significantly better than any of our other DB's on St's?
It's obviously a small return but to quibble just a tiny bit we've seen trades in the past year where it has been something like a player and a high 7th for a low 6th. Actually "conditionally" adding a pick is a better return than moving down a handful of spots in the draft. The lowest possible return in a trade.

Sorry for the derail.
I think we had a bet. Was it us? Twenty five bucks or something?YEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEES! YEEEEEEEEEEEES! YEEEES! I am going to leave work early and start drinking! I think I owe the Jimmy Fund. 8/31/2018 I will never forget this day.
He was like having a coach on the field. Literally.Still can not believe he was the 64th pick in the draft.
Now that Reche Caldwell has retiredThe lowest possible return in a trade.
Coach or couch? He was like having a coach on the field. Literally.
In his 60s.He was like having a coach on the field. Literally.
Just comfort yourself with the fact that they got Trey Flowers and Shaq Mason in the fourth round of that draft.Still can not believe he was the 64th pick in the draft.
This is good work.He was like having a coach on the field. Literally.
This is comedic gold, good work.He was like having a coach on the field. Literally.
You mean Tavon, the guy who has started the last two seasons for Detroit? I agree he didn’t really pan out like hoped but he was a late 2 who has had a productive career. That’s not awful. This is comedic gold, good work.
Man he was brutal, a second round pick, high football IQ coming out of Stanford, what a bust.
Him and Eugene Wilson, two stiffs drafted high, both picks at the time where true WHO?!?!? moments, followed by Mel Kiper with "A guy they could have had in the 5th round"...……….
Horrible wastes of draft capital.
Yeah Tavon, the one from Illinois. You mean Tavon, the guy who has started the last two seasons for Detroit? I agree he didn’t really pan out like hoped but he was a late 2 who has had a productive career. That’s not awful.
Unless you’re truly going back 15 years.
Yeah, Tavon.I hope he meant Tavon, they got plenty of value out of Eugene.
OTOH Duron Harmon was even more obscure (though a third compared to a second) and he has worked out great. And to be fair, that was a brutal draft for mid-round DBs: Senquez Golson, D'Joun Smith, James Sample, Alex Carter, Jalen Collins ... yikes. This is comedic gold, good work.

Seems pretty strait forward, but do you think this means Jason McCourty will now make the team or is he still on the bubble?OTOH Duron Harmon was even more obscure (though a third compared to a second) and he has worked out great. Same with Richards, if we’re being honest. He was a contributor on special teams and a defensive sub for much of 3 seasons — that’s not great but it’s also not what i would call a disaster for the last player taken in the 2nd round. You mean Tavon, the guy who has started the last two seasons for Detroit? I agree he didn’t really pan out like hoped but he was a late 2 who has had a productive career. That’s not awful.

Exactly.Sure I’d love the Pats to consistently find starting quality players anywhere in the 2nd round but that’s not reality. People’s expectation of the median contribution of players from the late 2nd round is likely extremely disconnected from anything based on facts.
I was reading and replying to your mix up as you were clarifying, so apologies, but Tavon's been in the league for 7 years, I'm pretty sure thats a good hit on a mid second round draft pick, even if somewhat underwhelming. That's not a "horrible waste of draft capital". I'm also not sure why you think any one player "leads" a defense or if you get what the hit rate is in that range and that even beyond that how much it fluctuates year to year. The only guys picked in that range they could have used for that team that we'd look back better on is Lavonte David or Casey Hayward (who they still could have taken, but traded down). Possibly Zach Brown, but he's pretty much done.Yeah, Tavon.
Not sure if you heard; he's gone on to lead the Lions defense to back to back 9-7 seasons.
I think he pretty much has to make it by process of elimination (Damarius Travis? A.J. Moore?), but I don't think he's going to contribute much unless there are injuries.Seems pretty strait forward, but do you think this means Jason McCourty will now make the team or is he still on the bubble?
Kind of, but on the other hand he was a bad fit with the Pats. He couldn't get on the field defensively after his rookie year, when he had a couple brutal lapses, including a game-losing one against Seattle. He's talented but he was unreliable and that doesn't play in NE.I don’t see how you can call Tavon Wilson a waste of a pick. Sure he never became a starter but he was an important special teams contributor and I don’t think it’s unfair to say that he must have been viewed as quality depth by the coaching staff based on the fact that he signed a 2nd NFL contract and is contributing to another team.
I’ll stop with the pure gold and look ahead not back. There isn’t enough lipstick.Same with Richards, if we’re being honest. He was a contributor on special teams and a defensive sub for much of 3 seasons — that’s not great but it’s also not what i would call a disaster for the last player taken in the 2nd round.
Take 2015: The next pick after Richards was a CB for the Colts named D’Joun Smith who was already out of the league by last year. The next safety taken was in the 4th round (by the Jaguars) and is also basically out of the league.
Exactly.
Also ... that “literal coach one the field” line was pure gold by the way.
Thanks, pretty much as I figured, making the team due to process of elimination.I think he pretty much has to make it by process of elimination (Damarius Travis? A.J. Moore?), but I don't think he's going to contribute much unless there are injuries.
That's like leading the league in PA's or FGA, is it not? Was he actually good, or did BB just want to get value out of him away from "defense?"He led the team in ST snaps last year by a significant margin (of course, both Slater and Ebner were hurt).
And with the state of kickoffs, you can pretty much stick anyone out there. Not sweating a slight downgrade, if there even is one, from Richards to the next guy for a handful of punts each game. That's like leading the league in PA's or FGA, is it not? Was he actually good, or did BB just want to get value out of him away from "defense?"
