I only turned MLB.tv on to watch for a while after finishing work but can't turn it off now - HR number 7 just landed in right-centre field. 0 out in the 4th and 7 HR in the game, plus Travis Shaw hit one for the Brewers in the top of the inning. Has DC been elevated due to some seismic shift?

They can still come back, it's only Scherzer on the mound.

I just saw the tail end of Stroman going nuts on the mound and getting in the umps face over called balls. Both he and Martin got ejected.

how do you leave in your starter to give up 6 bombs?
Probably because it was the third inning and they didn't want to mess up their bullpen for a week. That's just a guess there could be lots of reasons.
The first reliever in got shelled too so they probably didn't have many great options.

Gibbons as well. How bad were was the strike zone?
I only saw the pitch they got tossed on but that looked to be a ball to me.
Ump had a ridiculously quick trigger in any event but all those fans who came out to see him will go home happy.

The Twitter link I referenced has some nuggets.

Six walks for Stroman, none for the A's

Agreed, despite the disparity on the team totals, that doesn't seem like an awful zone. Blue Jays, though, might be one of the most frustrated teams this season

It was more the fact that the ump ejected him just because Stroman stared in. He didn't even say a word. Totally unprofessional.

But ya, they tend to chirp and are definitely feeling it.

The video I saw on barstool sports showed Stroman chirping at the ump. He appeared to say something about the ump needing to get his eyes checked.

def reason enough to toss a SP from a game. The guys who call balls and strikes worse than machines deserve total deference

The Mets lost 7-5 to San Diego on Thursday night. Twice they pinch-hit for a pitcher ... with another pitcher. In the fourth, with a runner on and two out, deGrom grounded out. In the seventh, Matz bunted into a force play at second with no one out. The Mets were trailing 7-1 with the leadoff man on, and Collins sent up a pitcher as a pinch-hitter to bunt. NY wound up scoring four in that inning to create the 7-5 final

I watched portions of this game thanks to MLBN. They mentioned that the Mets were operating with a two man bench and one of them had a sore neck (I think it was neck) and the other, Jose Reyes was getting one of those "defintely not being used" days off.

What I do not understand is why use a pitcher to PH? It's not like he's sending Bumgarner to pinch hit. If you need a bunt, why not use the pitcher that's actually in the game?

No Correa. No Springer. No problem for the Astros. Come from behind 6-5 win over the Tigers. Former "Tigers Closer of the Future" Bruce Rondon entered with a 5-3 lead in the 8th. His ERA on the season was 10.50, and he still managed to add almost 2 full runs to it... single, single, 3-run homer by Josh Reddick. Rondon was ejected from his last appearance for hitting Mike Moustakas.

Jordan Zimmermann actually had a solid outing tonight (7 ip, 3 er... left with the lead), but how terrible has that deal turned out for Detroit? In his first 5 games in a Tigers uniform, Zimmermann went 5-0, 0.55 ERA. Since then he's 10-15, 6.15 ERA. They still owe him $74 million over the next 3 seasons.

The Dodgers have some serious mojo going. Another win in extra innings. First major league AB wins it. Kyle Farmer.
The thing is, I could see them getting bounced out of the playoffs in the first round. I wouldn't predict it but it wouldn't shock me. Do they have a great offense? Do they have great starters? After Kershaw, who's had troubles in the playoffs, who's the lockdown Dodger playoff starter?
