Portland's most reliable pitcher since 7-1. Not as sexy as Henry Owens, but getting it done Maddux style.

Keith Couch pitches a 7 IP CG(game 1 of DH) allowing just 1 run.  Second consecutive start going 7 innings.  Now an Eastern League leading 6-0 for Portland with an ERA under 2.50.

At age 24, isn't he the leading candidate to move up to Pawtucket to replace whomever the Sox call up for Doubront?

17-3 at AA over the last 2 seasons, probably gets the call with Mookie in the next few weeks

His issue is a logjam at Pawtucket. Unfortunately Couch is probably stuck in Portland until one of the five SPs gets called up. I assume he may get the call to cover for whomever takes Doubront's spot, but that would only be short term.

I also heard that Steven Wright is almost ready to come off of the DL.  The point about Couch, however, is that he'll turn 25 in 6 months, and given his success at AA, the Sox would want to see how his stuff plays at AAA while he's still a prospect.  He's a couple months older than Webster and just a few months younger than De La Rosa and Ranaudo.

Keith Couch picks up a 4 inning save in Portland's 6-3 win over NH today (5/26)  Couch was a "piggy back" starter following Steven Wright's 2014 debut.  Couch allowed just 1 hit, no walks, and had 3 K's in his 4 innings of work.

From May 16 thru June 11, Couch had a nice string of 6 solid outings that included a 4-inning save. He posted a 1.69 ERA with a 22/4 K/BB over 32 IP, while holding 132 batters to a .262/.290/.365/.655 line.

That came to an abrupt halt 2 weeks ago on June 16 when he was hammered for 7 ER on 10 H and 3 BB with 0 K over 3.1 innings at Erie.H

He hasn't pitched since then, and today he went on the 7-day DL.

Couch's last outing (June 16) was rough (7 ER in 3 1/3 IP). Said his elbow was acting up a little. Had a start skipped, but needs more time.
