Being shaky and rusty is a problem. So Klopp has to find a way to get him some minutes.
I don´t know why he plays him, he probably wants to get Mignolet some rest and maybe he also sees some potential in Karius, I don´t know about that.
And if he plays him, he has to pick the matches carefully. And if everything goes well, if they win and he plays at least not bad (which in this case means: do not make mistakes that cause goals or even make us drop points), then Klopp does everything right.

Liverpool look strong right now, and are so fun to watch. Up 2-1 at the half, easily could be 4-1. Hopefully the missed PK from Firmino doesn't come back to haunt them.

Salah looked so much like The League's Rafi during his goal celebration I almost reflexively changed the channel.

You jinxed it.

At last it's always entertaining? This squad needs more variation in the tatics. They need to be able to ease the press and stay organized to preserve a lead, to play some occasional thoughtful possession to draw a team out. A little flexibility will go a long way in securing points.

I am really encouraged by a Salah. He's constantly creating chances and posing threats, even if the finishing can be sloppy and the decision making occasionally questionable. Those things can come along, and even if they don't, creating a lot of good opportunities mitigates the waste.

Based on usage, my bet is that Klopp likes Karius a lot but sees him as better against teams that won't/can't get physical in the box or cross it as much.

Which would be odd, since that leaves shot stopping. Mignolet is objectively a better shot stopper.

Klopp has a pair of keepers with matching weaknesses right now.

I've seen this movie before. Liverpool dominating possession and generating loads of chances against Leicester, who aren't even really sitting back behind the ball - still 0-0, 37'

Miss 9 or 10 chances, then go behind from a deflected goal the first time they put anything on target.

Seen this before...

The last 2 years have been worst case scenario in this competition. One final and one semifinal, so a lot of extra games, but no win. So with the extra European games this season, this ultimately is probably a blessing in disguise.

That said, it's still frustrating to watch.

He was either under strict instructions to help LFC leave the tournament gracefully or was purchased to give the appearance of giving a token effort in games the club wants to lose.

I wish you could say he was putting in a poor effort, but that looked like an overmatched player giving his all. Blech.

This team never does anything easy. Except dismantle Arsenal, but I digress...

Fantastic to have Coutinho back. He's looking good as ever. The thought of he, Mane, Firmino, and Salah all out there at once has me giddy.

Sturridge was looking spry today, too. I think Klopp's plan was to close out with a 4-2-3-1: Sturridge up top, Milner playing next to Henderson, and Ox-Wijnaldum-Salah playing left to right in the midfield. In theory that's a more solid defensive formation with enough counter attack potential to be an effective shape for protecting leads. In theory. This team never does anything easy.

Karius is back in goal against Spartak tomorrow.

While it's common for backup keepers to get playing time in cup games, I'm trying to think of another example of a keeper playing ONLY in the Champions League.

Not the smartest touch by Emre Can

Glimmering chance for Firmino heading a Mané cross stopped by Rebrov

Looked like Salah got barged through the back

The Hendo Special somehow got through to Firmino, which seemed to surprise even him.

Mané is out for up to six weeks after picking up a hamstring strain on international duty.

Once again... Fuck international duty.
