best of luck in Tennessee
xoxo from me too Malcolm. Would have loved to see what you could have done February 4th. But I wish him all the best.
I’ll never agree with SB52 decision. Go Malcolm.
I leave my sig in tribute.
Good luck Malcolm. Sad end to his Pats career, but probably one of the greatest beginnings.
I'm glad he got his big payday. Thanks for XLIX, my man.
The biggest OMG moment of my Boston Sports Life.
I still can't believe that he made that interception.
Best of luck MB!
Well deserved payday. Forever a hero in New England.
Glad he got paid, but not by the Pats after last season.
Live long and prosper.
Wow. Congratulations Malcolm! Well deserved -- thanks for SBXLIX!
Authored one of the few sports-watching moments that had me (and everyone else there) jumping up and down in the living room, pumping our fists overhead.
Best of luck Malcolm, thanks for the Patriots moment on my own personal Boston Sports Mount Rushmore along with Havlicek stole the ball, Fisk's home run and Orr's goal. Will never know what could have been in this years Super Bowl, but that doesn't change the play you made to win the Seattle one.
You deserve it Malcolm
Greatest play in football history. You deserved much better from your head coach but sure glad you cashed in.
Jesus, really? I know we have all been scratching our heads about the SB, but ‘deserved better from your head coach’? On what earth does anyone here think they know why he didn’t play and is qualified to say he should have, other than sheer speculation and ‘it couldn’t have been worse’?
One of the very few pieces of sports memorabilia I own is an autographed picture of “The Interception”. On a short list of the greatest single plays of all time. Go Malcolm, wish it could have ended differently in New England, but what a start.
Likely the greatest moment for me in my years of watching sports. Just so improbable. Thanks Malcolm, good to see you get paid
Agreed. Thanks for SB 49, glad you got paid.
I particularly loved how emotional he was after the game, almost couldn't speak. Those sideline shots of him getting hugs and tears on his cheeks is one of my favorite moments. It all felt so genuine.
Thank you Butler for bringing the greatest sports moment in my life. Wish him the best.
Maybe one of the happiest moments of my life.
I know it's cliche'd, but that moment was a validation of why we expend so much emotional energy into sports. Wish him nothing but the best.
Congrats to Malcolm. Thanks for SB 49.
I hope Brady torches your side of the field when the Pats play the Titans. Otherwise, good luck.
This is where I am.
Lots of good Malcolm memories, but Gilmore is clearly the better player, and if the guaranteed money reported is correct (its probably not - Gilmore was reported at 40M, but really got 32M - Butler reported at 30M) - they basically cost the same.
He'll never have to pay for a beer in the 6 state region
Should probably include Pennsylvania on that list...
That shot of him walking off the field when he realizes what he actually did, is something I'll never forget.
ETA: It's about 8:50 in the video.
Wow, Field Yates said the Patriots last offer to Butler was 6-years, $66 million with $25.5 million guaranteed. I believe this offer was before last season. Therefore, he wanted out because the money was similar. Bill nailed the market on this one.
I'm glad he got paid, I'll miss him. He's a great story.
My understanding of the Butler situation is that it was the same issue as the Deion Branch situation- the team requiring the player to keep the last year of the rookie contract at the same value, and the player wanting to rip it up and get paid like a superstar immediately.(IE, the team wanted an extension, the player wanted a brand new contract starting today)
Very nice and classy statements from Butler.
Looks like Malcolm really rolled the dice on not suffering a major injury this past season. He did OK in the end, but I wonder what his agent's advice was with regard to the Pats' offer?
I hate to be that guy, but given that the browser version on Safari is currently corrupted right now, can I ask if you mind posting the contents here, without the default ‘use the browser, the app sucks’ response?
Here you go Mr. Poutine:
More Malcolm Butler to @jeffphowe: 'I’ll always have love for New England. From the custodians to Belichick, all the way to Mr. Kraft, I love those guys' http://www.bostonherald.com/sports/patriots/the_blitz/2018/03/malcolm_butler_opens_up_about_super_bowl_benching …
