Watching Dodgers/D-Backs. How in the hell does Zack Greinke get anyone out? Consistently in the upper 80’s with a FB, occasionally in the low 90’s and a change up in the 70’s.

This was prescient since the Dodgers are hammering him now, 6 runs and 3 HRs in 3.1 innings so far.

How many games is Josh Hader gonna be worth to the Brew Crew in the standings this year? Like, 17?

I can't think of many other MLB players I would rather steal right now and drop onto our roster as built.

Cs fans: would you forfeit a Celtics-Bucks second-round series if it meant the Brewers would give us Hader?

And all of the “LOL Boston is racist” crap that would come with it? I know I shouldn’t care about that but I do.

Ugh, oh yeah. I guess I was so seduced by his stuff and numbers that story slipped my mind.

Just re-googled. Homophobic and misogynistic, too. "Hader," indeed.

Never mind....

“Both SP 10+ K on Opening Day

Max Scherzer/Jacob deGrom, 2019
Dave McNally/Sam McDowell, 1970”
Because I think it's interesting context, looking at all games in 2018, it happened 6 times, twice to Jon Gray:
  1. 9/9 Heaney 12K, Reynaldo Lopez 10K
  2. 7/1 Snell 10, Morton 11
  3. 6/12 Nola 10, Jon Gray 10
  4. 6/1 Foltynewicz 11, Strasburg 10
  5. 5/13 Freddy Peralta 13, Jon Gray 10
  6. 4/21 Manaea 10, Sale 10
The highest K total for a team that lost was James Paxton, striking out 16 in 7 innings in a 3-2 loss to Oakland in Seattle. He allowed zero runs and threw 105 pitches, leaving with a 2-0 lead. That had to sting.

Yandy Diaz with a freakin’ laser beam HR to dead center to lead Rays to 4-2 win over HOU. Matches his HR total from his previous 2 seasons in game # 2.

A lot going on, but Goldschmidt is about to get another AB with a chance for 4.

And they intentionally walk him down 4 runs top 9, one out and a guy on second. The right play but lame.

Joe kelly has blown the lead twice in his dodger debut.

Perhaps he is a secret agent for the Sox.

How can you get a 2 inning save in an extra inning game?
I have the same question logistically but apparently it's happened three times since 1908, all over 100 years ago.

Were the three pitchers just considered good enough to get the win? I know prior to 1950 it was a lot more subjective but this is nuts, especially since it's why OHR has 59 wins, not 60, in 1884 going by specifically modern acceptances of statistics.

Nope. I was there.

Pedro pitched 7 shutout innings at Safeco. Lowe faced the minimum and finished in 9.

Bruce Springsteen was there too. He was playing in Tacoma that night and couldn't resist going to Opening Day and seeing Pedro. He ended up showing up late for his gig, but it was all good.

I had to choose between Pedro and Springsteen. Two gods. I knew there was a chance I'd see Pedro later in the year, so it was an easy choice.

So in their last 5 games the Dodgers have played their longest post season and regular season games in their history. (timewise)

Rays take 2nd in a row from HOU, 3-1. Glasnow with a solid start, 1 run in 5 innings. Pretty good out of the gate against an incredibly tough team.

“Yu Darvish is the first pitcher since Pat Malone to allow 7+ BB and record 4+ K in fewer than 3 IP.

Pat Malone did it on August 2, 1930.”

Sonny Gray's Reds debut lasts 2.2 innings: 2 earned runs on 5 hits, 4 walks and no strikeouts. He also committed an error. Less than half his pitches found the strike zone.

The pitcher came up twice, RBI single and bases loaded walk. Good thing they locked him up through 2022... :)

Rays take 3 of 4 from HOU, 3-1, behind 7 IP, 2 H, 1 R, 0 BB, 6 K from Chirinos and HR #2 of the year from Meadows.

Great opening series to set the tone.

Andrew Miller has been bad all three times he's pitched so far, solo HR in game 1, a run allowed and three baserunners in game 2, and a HBP and BB to the only two batters he faced today.

2 IP total, a 3 WHIP and a 9 ERA which could go higher if either or both of these runners score.

Huge boos for the duration of Harper's first at bat in DC, tonight. Scherzer K's him swinging.
