I know the ESPN guys were talking about it, but they’re right. THis mound visit rule is going to be very interesting. It becomes a real decision on when you use them, especially with young teams like the Marlins.

Cardinals First Baseman with a throw to second that would make Chuck Knoblauch proud, plates the first Mets run of the season.

I love baseball, and am very glad it is back.

Schwarber did not make that look good. He was playing shallow, but he put his dome at risk going against the wall.

Seeing Jeter basking in the seats in the midst of the horror show he created just fills me with rage.

Carlos Martinez has already walked 3 and hit a batter, all trying to throw breaking balls in full counts, I believe. He has a good fastball, but for some reason can't use it.

Jeter would probably not be there if he wasn't obligated to do some in-game PR work on ESPN.
And here we go...ACTION!

EDIT: Wait. Something's missing...

You realize they tied it up, right? Anyway, I don't get this attitude (besides just hating Jeter because you hate Jeter). How did you feel about Loria and the Marlins for the past decade? Did you honestly think they were gonna be a contender this year and that Big Bad Jeter ruined that for them? It's silly to me - let them actually fail at rebuilding before you shit all over them.

I'm with you. Besides, making Joe Maddon sweat a little on opening day is a good thing.

Any broadcaster doing MLB games that doesn't know what "Queso" is needs to be fired immediately.
Or just say "no mas" and leave the booth on his/her own.

Who are you referring to?
Somebody in the booth during the Cubs/Marlins game. I wasn't sure who it was, but it was embarrassing.

Spanish translation of Eck saying fastball?
Exactly

Marlin RP Tayron Guererro came out of the pen and immediately hit 97 on the gun (on his way to striking out the side in the 6th). I think it was Harold who described a pitch as "Queso." Some other guy had no idea what he meant and rambled about not speaking French. I thought it might be a gag until Harold explained that Queso = "cheese" and that over 1/3 of the league spoke Spanish.

It was awkward.

Watching Dodgers/Giants. Kershaw and Blach in a pitchers duel. Kershaw gave up a pulled HR to Panick but his curve is really working.

10th straight Opening Day start for King Felix; pretty impressive. At 31, he’s two years younger than Steven Wright.

I think it was Kjurkian who didn't know what queso was, and it was Tony Perez Jr who was on the other end if that conversation. It was awkward indeed. Going by my ear, not checking websites etc.

Panama
6-6 in the 8th, and they are playing with only 3 umpires as the home plate umpire was hit in the facemask with a pitch.

Triple by Marte to start the 9th

Now 10-10, still in the bottom of the 9th. Felipe Rivero with a less than ideal debut, 4 ERs in 2/3 of an inning.

JaCoby Jones wins it in the 10th, 11-10, although he should have been punched out a couple of pitches earlier. Rough loss for PIT.

Awesomely the home crowd wants to go nuts about the walkoff win, but the umps are reviewing the close play at the plate and it's been a few minutes. Baseball 2018!

Ha, they change it to out! PIT had already walked off the field, although of course they would have had to walk off either way because the inning was over.

On to the 11th, the teams are both almost out of pitchers also. The original 'safe' call at home did look like wishful thinking by the ump wanting to go home, but it was far from clear on the replays that we saw.
