Yeah, we are both joking. The players were slow to be named here since this deal went down in the wee hours and it wasn't easy to notify them.

So one of the better deadline deals ever from a prospect perspective was PIT sending Mark Melancon to WAS for two months in 2016. They got in return Felipe Rivero (now Felipe Vazquez) and Taylor Hearn (who they just traded for Kela), they have Kela through 2021 and Vazquez through 2023 if they want after his extension, that is a lot of years of closers for two months of Mark Melancon.

Same with Harper, but he is trying to steal pitching, good young pitching for a two-month rental. AgaIn, good luck. Cleveland would be stupid to do that deal.
Yeah, that's not happening. The Indians have never traded for a pure rental who required a top prospect. It's basically a long-held organizational policy that all major deals must address long-term needs. Considering they already traded their top prospect for Hand and Cimber, it's even less likely to happen now.

Speaking of Players to Be Named Later!

FWIW, Olney thinks Harper goes. I’ve seldom seen such a shift in reporter opinion in one day. Maybe Boras green lighted a trade, providing assurances it would not hurt an effort to re-sign — just bring your green.

Fans are pissed here like I have never seen. They want an auction. Of course, the Nats are a reasonable approximation of the 2011 Red Sox — without the hot start and without 2 championships in the preceding 7 years. It certainly is understandable.

Not surprisingly, there are a lot of conflicting tweets this morning:

At least one team in touch with the Nationals heard the club had deals "lined up" for multiple players, including Bryce Harper, but got the sense ownership pulled the plug late last night

My fear as a Nats fan is that there will be no Harper trade and Boras will convince the Lerners to bid against themselves and astronomically overpay him.

The Rays are 10 out of the second wc. Why are they adding Pham?
He is under control through 2021, he was great last year and they think he has hit in bad luck this year, plus he pissed off STL management and so they got a good deal on him.

Love the Rays for keeping things interesting. Definitely did not see them trading for last year's fifth-best outfielder in baseball.

The Cardinals selling low on a guy is unusual. Usually they're right when a guy is washed up (*cough* Allen Craig *cough*). So to see the Rays, another thrifty organization, have the opposite opinion makes this a really interesting trade to see pan out.

I thought Pham was the most intriguing possibility for the Indians. The Cardinals took quantity over quality, so it looks like a package that could have easily been topped. Not sure who Cleveland is targeting, and the cast of available center fielders is underwhelming, but it will be a huge disappointment if they don't add anyone today. Andrew McCutchen wouldn't surprise me, but the way things have unfolded, someone who can play a solid center field makes the most sense. They have a history of dealing with Cincinnati, and maybe they think Billy Hamilton is finally becoming acceptable at the plate?

These reporters are getting a little ridiculous now

They're not even waiting for the TEAM anymore, let alone the players coming back

Everyone wants to be first

Ziegler hasn't been great this season---WHIP is above his career number, his ERA+ is just 94, and his FIP is 4.58.

Weapons are weapons, but he hasn't been a shutdown guy.

#Indians acquire Leonys Martin from the #Tigers in exchange for Willi Castro, sources tell The Athletic.

That's an upgrade but underwhelming... he's almost become an average hitter at age 30, and he's not going to win any Gold Gloves. Gives them insurance against Bradley Zimmer's health/performance next season. I've seen Willi Castro play a couple times. He's a 21-year-old toolsy but raw AA shortstop who's capable of hitting frozen ropes around the field, but has struggled to consistently show the talent in games. Basically, every organization has at least one Willi Castro. The funny thing is, the last one of this type Cleveland had was Ronny Rodriguez, who's already in Detroit after reaching minor league free agency.

Ground Zero

Rays seem to be valuing hard contact skills with Pham and banking on his downturn this year being a fluke. They gave up nothing of consequence and he's controlled into the window when their young talent hits and they expect to contend again. Feels like a pretty solid move to me.

And the Rays aren't shitty, they are a .500 team in a division being trampled by the 2 best teams in baseball.

I should have said "non-contending."

While I hope this means the Yankees convinced Adam Jones to come to NY, The great part of this tweet is the @. Of all the people Sherman could've wrongly linked to

And MLB Network just put the tweet on tv without checking it
