A majority of NBA fans don't pay that much attention before April I guess.

The East HAS to have 4 PG's on the roster for the first time I believe. Kyrie, Wall, Isaiah and Lowry all have to make it.
You could make the case for Kemba as well, how many two guards have been better than Walker this year in the East? DeRozan, maybe Brad Beal and???

Biggest Snub is Lowry, Westbrook 2nd. Curry is 3rd best guard so not bad. DeRozan was a borderline pick to even make the game, so that's pretty terrible to have him start. The rest is good to me.

DeRozan borderline to make the game? He's having his best year even better than last in putting up 28/5/4 on the 2nd best team in the EC.

Derozan is a borderline pick? He's been superb this year and his team is really good. I'm more of a Lowry guy but I have no problem with him as a starter.

Yes DeRozan is borderline to me, here are the guards in the East I think are better than him:
Lowry
Thomas
Walker
Irving
Wall

So at least 3 non-starting guards ahead of him
Now front-court:
George
Embiid
Porzingis
Love
Millsap
Horford

So to me he's the 6th best guard. That probably gets him in, but if you decide to take an extra FC player since it's a deeper group and Butler can play guard maybe you leave him out.

The East has some great guards but what exactly would DeRozan have to do to not be a "borderline All-Star"? Average 35 ppg?

be one of the 5 best guards in the conference?
I'm calling him borderline because he should be the last one in, that's how a border works. There isn't some magic number set at which one is an all-star, some years are easier or harder than others, this year there are a lot of good guards, and a number of those are better than DeRozan.

I am not sure I disagree with your guard assessment, but Derozan deserves an all-star nod far more than just about all those front court players.

How can Embiid not be an Allstar? I mean wtf? And I love Milsap but the Process is part of the future for the league and quite possibly the most amusing character in the entire Association. This is B.S.

Did we really need 84 reserve PGs on the EC squad?
yes, because they're really good and the SGs are garbage. Honestly if a guard was getting cut it should have been Derozan, but he got the starting spot for some reason.

He's played 750 minutes. Millsap is more deserving, he's been terrific in twice as many minutes.

That reason is he is 6th in the league in PPG and his team has the second best record in the Eastern Conference. It's not much more complicated than that.
I mean if it were all fan vote sure, but he's the second best guard on that 2nd place team.
