I was looking at retired and potentially retired numbers (ie: 33) and other than 21 and 33 and 49, there are only 2 non retired numbers under 60 that have been worn by Red Sox, but not worn in the past 5 or more seasons (not worn since 2010). Can you figure out those numbers and who wore them last?

17 and 57. Both last worn by Manny Delcarmen!

The Sox now have a better than even chance (I estimate ~75%) of doing something that has only been done 12 times previously in franchise history and just 6 times since WWII.

They accomplished this feat in:
1912
1917
1918
1938
1940
1942
1946
1969
1979
1995
2006
2013
and failed to in every other season.

Can you name what it is?

Nope.

HINT: The MFYs have done it 30 times: 8x in the Ruth era, 6 times with DiMaggio, 8 times with Mantle and 8x in the past 50 years. (One of the above was with Mantle + DiMaggio and one other year ('43) was with neither.)

According to bb-ref the 1912 Red Sox did not play any extra-inning games.

As was pointed out bb-ref is not correct on this stat.

In the last 100 seasons, the Red Sox have performed this feat only 9 times:
The seasons that the feat was performed were 1938, 1940, 1953, 1972, 1975, 1982, 1986, 1993 and 2017.
What is it?

We all know old friend Daniel Nava hit the first pitch he saw in the major leagues for a grand slam! But who is the only person to hit the very first pitch of an entire season for a home run?

Didn't Pedroia do that? I wanna say 2009?

I'm not totally sure that was the first pitch of the season, but I do remember that whole off-season they ran that commercial about Pedroia not being able to hit the high-inside fastball, and he took the first pitch he saw (a high inside fastball) and put it over the monster.

Edit: NM, quick google says it was Dwight Evans

Correct on Dwight Evans. And to clarify, the Cincinnati reds typically opened the season as the first game in those days as an acknowledgement to being the first Major League team, but I recall 1986 opened with a game in both Detroit and Cincinnati. The Detroit game started first and Evans hit Black Jack Morris' first pitch out in old Tiger Stadium. So this was the first pitch of the entire MLB season. I believe it's the only time it's ever been done.

I was at a Sox game in 2001 when a player hit into a triple play and hit a grand slam. He still remains the only player in MLB history to do both in a single game. Can you name him?

It was one of the SH guys, either Scott Hatteberg or Shea Hillenbrand... but I'm going to go with Hatteberg.

Rick Porcello is currently 3-9. A Red Sox pitcher in the last 50 years began his season 3-9 and ended up 17-13. Who is he?

Xander and Pedroia have played together 357 games. First double play connection to play that many games together since Rico and Mike Andrews played 457 together.

What combo in the past 50 years is third, with 356?

I was thinking maybe Marty Barrett and Spike Owen, but that actually would have been my next guess. Forgot that Owen really only played 2 seasons with the Sox after coming over with Hendu for Quinones and then being replaced by Jody Reed at SS about 1/2 way through 1988.
Side note about Spike Owen, he didn't hit his first homer in 1987 until August which was also my first ever game at Fenway (and didn't hit his 2nd until one of the last games of the season in October). At that game in August, John Marzano had the game of his life with 2 homers and a double. Both of the starting battery members for the opposing team were Red Sox later in their careers (Greg Harris and Mike Stanley). And young Sam Horn still had a pretty gaudy stat line (.333/.417/.746). Good times.

I would have guessed Offerman/Garciaparra, but Offerman only played 299 games at 2B (286 starts) to go with 206 more (176 starts) at 1B, DH and (gulp) RF in his 3 1/2 years. Not sure the overlap numbers but Nomar missed almost all of 2001 with his wrist injury so I guess that killed it right there.
