I don't even care if he's good anymore. This is long overdue and it's about time their shared Twitter account became less awkward and more confusing.

Great move and he's only on the books for about $3M this year. Cornerback group looks pretty good with Jonathan Jones coming back from injury.

Jason was pretty good last year with 3 INT's and 14 deflections (which would have led Pats).

There's only upside given the minimal cost. I do wonder how he'll fit into a man-to-man heavy scheme. I could be wrong but my understanding is that he played in a lot of zone-heavy schemes over the course of his career.

Yeah, McCourty's contract is so good that it's worth making the minor trade just to avoid any potential free agent bidding war. He's definitely worth far more than 1/$3mil on the open market; he's a legit starting corner.

2-3 years too late. But never the less it’s a good move

It's pick #205 for #219.

Those are the only picks each team has in those rounds, so I'm confident I didn't screw that up.

Very cheap price so well worth it. Only needs to be a depth piece to be worth the contract.

I was unsure of comp picks after rd 6 but for a minute i thought they basically swapped a total of 2 spots
That's what I thought too until I checked. At that point in the draft teams are shopping for guys they've ID'd that may be off the radar of other teams. So it wouldn't surprise me if the Pats get the guy with 219 that they would have taken at 205.

He's probably to be the starting corner opposite Gilmore(unless they get a stud CB in the draft) so the price is going to be a steal. I really like this acquisition. Gilmore/J-Mac/Rowe/JJones/CJones is a nice depth chart. I figure they'll add one more in the draft.

Solid at worst--that makes for a good group of corners (assuming health of course and that we get anything out of either Cyrus or Jonathan Jones).

Thought this trade might have cornered all Rutgers players and all McCourtys with one move. But a quick search reveals there are about 15 other Rutgers players in the NFL. I would not have guessed that.

Solid move to pull off the trade and not create a potential offset for the comp pick formula.

Great trade. Very low cost. Good upgrade over Cyrus Jones at nickel or dime, I presume.

I am firmly in the twins math of 1+1 is greater than 2 camp.

Maybe BB does know what he's doing

What jersey number would be most easily confused with 32? NFL won't allow 82 for a defender, so 22? 37? 33? I want Harbaugh crying about "deception" in the Pats secondary.

Given that, any insight into why the Browns were willing to do this?

Good player, light dollars. Seems like a player they should have wanted to keep.
Best I can tell from reading stories and boards is that the new regime wanted their own guys. Maybe he isn’t a good system fit

That was my first thought as well. I wouldn't be surprised if the Pats gave him a new contract as a sign of good faith.

any chance Jason being able to get up to speed on the playbook faster with Devin right there was a consideration in this move?

This is an unbelievable deal. Nobody would beat that ass package for a good corner with that contract?

A+

Since McCourty would have been cut, I do not believe he would have counted in the comp pick formulas.
Instead of signing a FA CB of relatively equal skill level they trade for a guy. That signing would have been weighed against the Pats, or could have been.

Ok, yeah. Thought he meant trading for him instead of waiting until he was cut and then signing him.

Nice piece from Price (behind a paywall) on JMac:

https://www.bostonsportsjournal.com/2018/03/15/analysis-examining-jason-mccourtys-skills-fit-patriots/

One interesting bit in there:
A look at his film reveals New England has acquired a guy who is a good second corner, a durable (he played 84 percent of the snaps last year and 74 percent the year before that) defender with good ball skills who is more than capable in man or zone coverage. Pro Football Focus had him ranked 17th among all cornerbacks last year, better than Stephon Gilmore (31) and Malcolm Butler (48th).
Some film at the link.
