I'm shocked. Figured him for the Vereen path. But BB loves him. And as we learned he loves coaching guys he likes.

Told me friend earlier today I could see him being the surprise training camp trade of the year since they wouldn't be bringing him back, oops.

Very happy with this extension. The SB was his coming out party and he is a great piece in the backfield.

Would be extremely crazy if he never suited up again from the perspective that they are undefeated with him playing
Agreed. Hopefully they are getting smarter about his usage.
The more bodies they have to absorb some of his workload, the more they can save him for the big plays and the big games. When healthy, he's basically un-tackle-able in space.

What would be the incentive for parting with Lewis this year? His contract is small. He's an explosive player who's multidimensional.

Now if we're talking about extending him after this year I can see that. But a cut or trade now makes little sense.

This may signal that the door for Dion Lewis out of town may be opening.
White is the only rb under contract for more than next year now right? I think he's the only one that makes sense to extend right now, and there is no way they would go into next year in that situation. Plus it wouldn't make sense to draft a running back that would take up a roster spot.

Listening a lot to the ITP podcasts and two things mentioned that apply to White are 1) development is not linear and 2) it can take a player 3 years or so to get acclimated to the league. In those three years it's not just learning the offensive system a player is in but also to develop physically and fine tune skills. Remembering his 2015 vs last year. It took White two years to get where he is.
Thanks to SoSH for years I've learned about the baseball draft and the minors and how prospects develop over years. I'm comfortable with my knowledge there - sure I'm not a scout but I can read something and understand it. I always thought the NFL draft process was much more plug and play with little development aside from experience and minor coaching adjustments. Seeing White develop while I was learning about the NFL draft and prospect development process (From big ITP and SoSH) helped put the pieces together for me. Thanks, everyone!

I read that White is the first RB they have drafted since Faulk that they have given a second contract to. Is that correct? Off the top of my head I think it is.

That is correct. It also looks like the last one to get a second contract before Faulk was John Stephens, who was drafted in 1988. Hard to precisely tell but he did play five seasons for the Pats, so just going with a guess there.

In the words of Jonathan Casillas, that's crazy yo.

James White has 2 touchdowns in 113 carries in the regular season ... and five touchdowns in 27 postseason carries. He had a rushing touchdown in every postseason game this year after not having a rushing touchdown in the regular season. Also, his 26-yard rushing TD in the Super Bowl was the longest carry of his career - regular or postseason.

I don't have a point, I just thought it was worth noting.

He’s basically our Derek Fisher minus the douchiness.

He's a free agent.

Seems like a pretty solid deal for White.

Wish they could have worked out a second contract for Curtis Martin.
