Figured we could use a separate thread for Patriots-related injury news and updates.

Gronk--the groin injury is not serious per Rapaport. Says in the video he could have returned if game was closer or of more importance later in the season.

Hightower-could return this week or next week. He has a minor MCL injury.

Hogan, Rowe, Dorsett, Burkhead too. I didn't even know Rowe was hurt until after the game, so I'm not sure if it was something serious or just a knock. The other three looked relatively minor, though it can be hard to tell sometimes with lower body injuries.

Thanks for opening the thread. I'll be following closely.

Other teams certainly had worse days -- e.g., Baltimore (Yanda) -- and yesterday may be about bullets dodged for us, but this has to stop if we're going to enjoy the season everyone is hoping for. Eventually, the chamber runs out of bullets.

With Gronk, I'd take half the regular season for him (6 more games) + having him healthy for the playoffs. I'd make that deal right now.

Gronk is talking to the media today saying his groin injury is nothing serious and that he's feeling good. It will be interesting to see if he practices Wednesday. If he does, he's on track to play even if he's limited.

That is awesome. Getting Amendola back would be huge, still don't want him returning punts though. Just the added security blanket he provides for third down is fine with me. Burkhead getting healthy at some point would be great, hopefully not a broken rib situation that lasts a long time.

Also, GRONK.

Cannon concussion. No bueno vs that D
Shit. This likely means a lot of Allen camped out next to Fleming or Waddle to try to keep Watt far away from TB12.

May also mean a lot James White staying in to block.

Let's hope Solder and the interior 3 can hold up against Clowney. DIdn't he give them fits last season in the playoffs by destroying the A gaps?

Tap the breaks on Gronk practicing celebrations. Injury report lists him as DNP.
Yes, but per the Herald he was actually seen practicing:

Because nothing is ever as it seems with Rob Gronkowski's injuries, the Patriots listed him as a non-participant for today's practice. Gronk stretched with his teammates -- which has occurred in the past for non-participants, as recently as last Wednesday with Matthew Slater -- and then broke off into positional drills. He worked with the skill players during the first drill and stood in line to hit ball carriers with a blocking pad. For the next drill, Gronkowski and Dwayne Allen broke off to the side to work on blocking techniques before the media period expired.

I wouldn't characterize it as he didn't do anything. He did positional drills but no team periods.
I saw that too. I was just really encouraged that he was at practice and apparently participating according to reports on twitter, then he's listed as DNP. Which I think means Sunday is now a huge question mark. When I first saw practicing reports, I was optimistic for Sunday.

Strange - with that he's textbook for "limited" - "A player who participated in individual drills but does not participate in the team portion of practice should be listed as “Limited Participation” for that day."

Maybe it depends on what a "drill" is.
I don't see it defined in the rules anywhere, so you're probably right, in that it's BB being completely literal about something - similar to Brady being "Probable - Shoulder" for years because he was regularly held out of a couple exercises in practice to keep wear on his shoulder down.

It has generally been the case (anecdotally at least), that a Friday return to practice is still a good week away from playing. So I am thinking the Jest game for Burkhead.

Seriously? I didn't see that coming. I didn't even think he was "that" questionable this week. I thought he was just on the report because there is no more 'probable" status. Welp, that sucks, but this team should still be able to score relatively easily against the Bucs banged up defense, and if we can steal a win and get Gronk an extended rest at the same time, it'll be a win-win.

It's a thigh contusion. No idea when it happened but Gronk is certainly at his "made of glass" phase of his career.

Enjoy him while we have him. It's always something. For elite guys at his position, he is an ancient 28.
