I wish I could say I was upset about this, but his Yankee career was over at the end of the year anyway. I hope it doesn't mean they rush Chance Adams faster than they want to, but I doubt it will.

He had shoulder surgery before, it's not definite that he's getting Tommy John this time yet, but either way, not our problem anymore (sorry to be harsh, but really dunno why people are all so gloomy on Twitter about this).

Bryan Mitchell coming up to start Sunday
And Cessa will get a start the series after, Cashman said. He also said Chance Adams could be a possibility after that, I think they will use the spot to audition people, German maybe too.

How high does this deal rank on the "trade that didn't work out for either side" list?

Pretty disappointing for both sides certainly, but the Yankees out least got more out of it than the Mariners. Noesi was terrible and Montero will only be remembered in the Northwest for chucking an ice cream sandwich at someone.

Wasn't Montero almost traded for Cliff Lee?

Googling I found this. I always thought it was that Seattle changed their minds.

There are too many prospects that don't work out.

I don't think that article is quite correct, SEA really wanted Smoak and once TEX agreed to include him, Lee was going there.

So, they're going to tank and try for multiple first-overall draft picks?
I thought that was funny too, I haven't seen him use that phrase before.

I do think he's right, though, they shouldn't be trading real prospects for anyone but guys who fill long-term holes, and those deals are probably better made in the offseason anyway.

But, in the universe financially in which the Yankees play, Gray or Cole could be long-tern fixes.

I still think Ellsbury-plus for Verlander makes sense

Why is Cessa getting another chance to start? Were the Yankees that impressed by the 0-3, 5.90 numbers he posted in his previous starts this year, in which his maximum effort was 5 IP? If they don't want to rush Adams (and since when is 11 AAA starts 'rushing'?), fine, but why not use Dietrich Enns, who's already on the 40 man roster, or Caleb Smith? Their AAA numbers are much, much better than Cessa's, and unlike him they still didn't fail in the majors.
And now let's hope he makes me eat crow.

They say that they don't think Adams is ready, but I have been saying all year that I will be a bit surprised to see him up this year for the simple reason that him playing in the bigs in 2017 will cost NY someone off the 40 man this winter, since Adams doesn't need to be added this winter.

Caleb Smith may get a chance but he got hammered in the AAA All-Star game this week (4 ERs in an inning) and he is not regarded as much of a prospect. Enns is already on the 40 man but he has been hurt most of the season (out between April 14 and June 26), but he has been very good since returning and a few more good AAA starts will probably put him right in the mix if Mitchell/Cessa continue to be underwhelming.
