How to embed a youtube video:
1. Copy the URL
2. Paste it into your post without any markup

It'll embed automatically.

#2 is key--you can't paste it in as an HTML link.  3 ways to paste plain text:

1. Shift-Ctrl-V  (rather than just Ctrl-V) pastes plain text in most browsers
2. Right click and select "Paste as plain text" from the context menu
3. If you're in the GUI editor, click the little clipboard icon that has "Paste as plain text" as the hover icon.  It's in between the "Paste" and the "Paste from Word" icons:

It used to be the case that you needed the URL that started http://www.youtube.com/ ; https or m.youtube.com or youtu.be wouldn't work.  I think those are fixed, now.

The "media" tags don't work.  Don't even try them.

EDIT:
ANOTHER method:
Try this:
1. Paste the link
2. Highlight it
3. Click on the "unlink" icon in the menu bar (it's a broken chain link that is only active when you have a link highlighted)
4. Post

Why the stupid change from when it was easy?

Invision broke it when they added the new GUI editor, it posts URLs as links instead of text.  Believe me, I liked the old way better.

In that little gear icon you used to be able to have plain text paste by default, but it hasn't been working in a while.

Type the URL in by hand?

Throw an example post in the Test thread in Backwash and I'll try to figure out what's going wrong.

Note: Nothing here's a change over how it's been for months, I just took the time to write stuff up.  But I haven't altered anything about how it works recently.

It's just that it has to be the pure URL, without any variables or other add-ons.

Everything including the ? and after has to go before it will embed.

I think I can fix this.

Fixed, kind of.  It doesn't jump to the right time in the vid, but at least it embeds.

Cant you still embed videos using Special BBcode (button next to the eraser)?

I usually click on that, select media from the drop down menu  and then paste the link. it seems to have worked the last few times I have embeded that way.

I've never used that or touched anything related to it, so if it used to work it probably still does.  I'll play with it tonight and edit the OP if it works.

Anyone ever figure this out? This thread is useless as is.
All 3 methods from the first link work for me. As does just typing the URL into the post by hand.

As long as when you paste it, it's just text (not blue/underlined), it'll embed the video automatically.

Unfortunately the new GUI editor often tries to turn URLs into links, which cocks up the video embedding.

We detect IP addresses from outside the country and fuck with their content.

(All 3 of the original methods still work for me, I've got no other alternatives).

Check the URL. At least one of them you had a mobile I think or yo.utube or something like that. You just need the bare nothing fancy .com /?=********* link

Yeah - but what you're seeing with that is the final multiple edit version in which I finally stopped. I have tried millions.

Could you maybe show me what it should exactly look like?

Another thing to try: if you paste and it's linked rather than plain text, highlight the link, click the "unlink" icon (the broken chain--it's greyed out if you don't have a link highlighted), and save.

So are you all set then Syd?

If not what you want is the youtube.com and then just
/watch?v=tUHCO-qyA1A obviously with tUHCO-qyA1A replaced with whatever it is for your video
It can't be m.youtube or you.tube or anything funky like that (fwiw TtP has this issue in post #8 if you look at that one)

https:]]www.youtube.com]watch?v=tUHCO-qyA1A (with ] instead of /) is:

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=tUHCO-qyA1A

You can now post links to a particular time inside a video by putting "&t=120s" (or however many seconds) at the end of the URL.

https : // www. youtube. com/ watch ? v = tUHCO-qyA1A & t = 120s

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=tUHCO-qyA1A&t=120s
