This could be a nice acquisition, if its very cheap, and I don't really see why it wouldn't be.

"Two minor league pitchers" are the return, per twitter.

Wasn't he supposed to replace Derek Jeter, his idol, at SS?

That can't be good.

Worried we gave up too much for him.

He's not very good at anything, but he's a better hitter than Marrero and a far better runner than anyone else on our bench, so as long as Farrell doesn't get tempted to play him over Devers against every LHH, this is a fine use of what I expect will be a couple of the Rule 5 logjam pitchers.

Im betting Nunez can help give X time off to heal
I actually think it allows them to DH Devers and play Hanley at first more, if they don't add a bat.

I think he's more or less roster insurance for Devers/Moreland, which makes sense.

Underwhelming, but my college roommate and avid Giants fan who told me Pablo's contract was going to be one of the worst ever when we signed him just texted me, " good ballplayer, you're going to like him."

I think this is right. (I follow the Giants a bit, too.) He doesn't do anything especially well, but he does a lot of things pretty well.

Well, he makes contact and avoids Ks quite well. We probably now have the three qualifying players in the AL with the lowest K rate.

edit: It's true! Betts, Nuñez, and Pedroia are the only three qualifying hitters in MLB with K rates under 10%.

"Nunez had been on a tear for the Giants. His .348 average is the fourth-highest in the majors since June 1 (minimum 100 plate appearances), and he went 9 for 16 in his final four games with San Francisco (.563)." from ESPN trade item

Eh. Would have preferred to deal from the Buttrey/Callahan/Hernandez crew, but Anderson could easily wind up a reliever and I can live with this.

I can live with it. Not really a trade they needed to make if Devers is already up. Just seems like giving up prospects for the sake of giving up prospects

It's giving up low value prospects for insurance. If Devers is ready, great. If he isn't they'll need to have done something to shore things up. That's value.

You can't manage a team on hope.

If that's true, how do you explain Fister still wearing a Sox uni?

That's cool. Is he a clubhouse guy? A grownup adult? Would love to know if Dombroski even pays attention to this part of the game.

Santos is the kid I'm sad to see go- could be a potential no. 2 in MLB rotation... but it's so far down the line and so many stinkin' things could go wrong between now and then that deals with kids that far away should never ever cause any distress even if they end up at their ceilings 5, 6 years down the road

No, I doubt the President of Baseball Ops of a major professional baseball team, who has been involved in baseball for 40 years, pays attention to that.

I wonder if Dombroski even knows his OPS or what position he plays. I wonder if he pays attention to that part of the game.....

Well, he's seemed to have overlooked it this season when Ortiz retired.

The wrong side of the bridge....
Well, he's seemed to have overlooked it this season when Ortiz retired.
What does this even mean? What specific actions on Dombrowski's part have manifested the "overlooking" of which you speak? Are you saying he should have somehow prevented Ortiz from retiring? Or are you saying that he should have magically conjured another player with the same personality and the same veteran-superstar clubhouse aura to take his place? What golden opportunity to hit a team-chemistry home run did he whiff on?
