Didn’t Pearce join the Sox well before Kinsler?
So glad we picked up this guy I'd never heard of.I gotta say, I watch a decent amount of Red Sox baseball, follow other teams from more of a distance but keep up with the headlines across the sport, etc... and I don't think I can remember a more anonymous player (especially given that he's played in 12 major league seasons!) than Steve Pearce. When the Sox picked him up, I pretty much had no idea who he was.
Well, he's not anonymous anymore, that's for sure.
In my annual pilgrimage to Fenway, which this year was the early August Thursday night series opener vs the Yanks, Pearce hit 3 HRs and the Sox eventually swept the series. I went looking for a Pearce shirt after the game but I don't think they made any. At the time.Should've known he was destined for greatness when we traded for him and he IMMEDIATELY played great against the Yankees.
I don’t think he’d strictly be the short side of a platoon. He could factor into the OF mix, especially in Fenway’s LF and over the course of a season would likely be the #2 DH behind Martinez. He could see 300 regular season PAs pretty realistically. As Pablo noted above, a platoon of him and Mitch might be fine on paper, but I’m not sure Pearce would want to be the short-side of a platoon on this his last contract, unless there is an overpay for that level of contribution.
Dude was so anonymous that he played for every team in the division, the teams we play 18 times a year, and I never heard of the guy until he came to the Sox.I gotta say, I watch a decent amount of Red Sox baseball, follow other teams from more of a distance but keep up with the headlines across the sport, etc... and I don't think I can remember a more anonymous player (especially given that he's played in 12 major league seasons!) than Steve Pearce. God almighty, I love this team.
