Red Sox are moving to a six man rotation for all MILB teams (except for AAA)

The pitching, of course, is less heralded, though as is the case in the big leagues, the Sox are hopeful that the overhaul of their infrastructure will allow for potential starters such as Wikelman Gonzalez, Luis Perales, Richard Fitts, and David Sandlin to take steps forward and provide some balance.

As the Sox try to help their young pitchers, they’re going to make some changes to the structure of their work. Perhaps most notable: From Double A down, the organization will employ six-man rotations with multi-innings relievers behind them. With minor league affiliates having virtually all Mondays off, the once-a-week starting schedule will permit structured routines for goal-oriented side work.

It obviously makes sense why AAA would be excluded from this given that AAA is less of a developmental league than the ones below it. Regardless I will be interested in seeing how much this helps with our MILB pitchers

Sounds like this will very much mirror what they do in the Japanese major leagues. I'm wondering if any other MLB teams are doing this.

It sounds good in theory, but unless you're getting length out of them, doesn't this just take a spot in the bullpen away causing more stress on them?

It says they're going with multi-inning relievers behind the starters. It sounds like they're not doing many one inning relievers at all down there. It's an interesting idea if that's actually what they're doing. You'll learn a lot more about pitching going multiple innings at a time.

Cool. I just don't want them to run into a bad reliever who can't go multiple and the whole weeks plan falls apart.
