Scherzer said he wanted to pitch against the Rockies if the game still mattered, but Dave Martinez is sitting him.
That sucks for the Dodgers, especially after the Giants tweaked their rotation to make sure Bumgarner pitched against them.

A big game 162, and he has a legit shot ... an even better shot if he gets a 163.
Could be worse. They can just fly into Chicago. If it turns out they need to go to Milwaukee instead, it's a 90 minute bus ride.
I hope Martinez gets canned just because of this. That's some BS.
Also, I just noticed that every game has a 3 start time today. How long has MLB been doing that on the last day?

Edit to add: It sounds like bullshit but the game doesn't matter for the Nats so it's better not to expose him to injury. It's like sitting Tom Brady in Game 16 vs a team that needs to win.
While Martinez is acting like this is his call, Scherzer is announcing it as Rizzo's. Which means it was Rizzo

Every now and then, I'm really tired because of night shift, and adamantly post something that I shouldn't be so adamant about. This is probably one of those times....
With both divisions potentially headed towards tiebreaking games, how they are managed tomorrow will be interesting. If you are in the middle innings down 2 or 3 runs, how aggressively do you use your bullpen, knowing that if you don't come back, you may need them in a winner-take-all game the next day?

That sounds like a big disadvantage for the NL West team that loses.
I would think each game would be a 1 PM local start at latest unless there is some TV deal that restricts it.
this is going to be an interesting "bracket". Basically a double elimination bracket. two teams will go 1-0 and advance, one will go 1-1 and advance, one will go 0-2 and go home.
That makes sense for travel reasons. The West loser has to go to Chicago or Milwaukee for a game the next night.

It was getting a lot of press earlier this morning on Twitter, for some reason. It's pretty funny and absolutely amazing.
Tampa is likely to finish with 90 wins, would have been 1game out in the ALC and in all this NL chaos, but 10 behind MFY and 18 in back of the Sox.
They’re up a combined 47-4 now. They’re going to outscore some NFL teams today.
Another bizarre thing is that the Braves are the division winner with the worst record in the NL, but they are the only team that has tomorrow off.
no one's really talked about the Tigers.... they snuck in with another terrible record at the end here, 64-98. the White Sox also joined the 100 loss club barely.
Whoever wins the Cubs-Brewers game tomorrow may not want to celebrate too much, since the teams may end up meeting again a couple days later in the NLDS.
