I wonder how many miles Canelo's Fit Bit recorded during the fight. He was running away most of the first 10 rounds.

Easily? Canelo got out to a good start in both and in 12 took 7 power shots in a row from golovkin. I just don't see it. The pacing from round 4 on was dictated by golovkin. Canelo landed zero jabs and ate gggs jab all night

Those jabs did nothing, it's not like he was doing Larry Holmes shit out there. GGG was arm punching all night until round 9. That's what the "European" comments meant. He was fighting like he was trying to win the All Valley karate point fighting tournament. I scored some of those point fighterish rounds for GGG, but Canelo's power shots impressed me much more than anything GGG did.

I think I'll probably rewatch tomorrow morning with the sound off and see if that changes my thoughts but I think it's just beyond the realm of possibility that a professional judge watched that and gave canelo 10 rounds. That's just not believable that the card was on the up and up. That's cj Ross bad. It makes the sport look terrible. I thought moretti was going to be the golden boy owned judge but perhaps the publicity over his, prior canelo scorecards caused them to look elsewhere.

The jabs kept canelo in the ropes and the ring cut off much of the night

Also. What canelo power shots. There were none of note until round 10

Exactly, "ring generalship" can be a tiebreaker in a close round but if one boxer is landing pretty much all the clean power shots hard not to give him the round even if he is not the "aggressor" in the traditional sense.

To what end... jabbing cutting off the ring trapping your opponent is supposed to lead to you inflicting more damage on your opponent than he inflicts on you. Never happened for GGG

I didn't think Canelo won the fight, his chin impressed the hell out of me, his jab saved his life, and his defense (even when dead tired) allowed him to avoid the sustained attacks. Still....I felt GGG won it by a round 2-3 rounds. But what killed him was the bigger game, by not going for the KO (Canelo was dead in there a few times) and letting it go to the cards, he wrote his own death sentence.

No way they rematch before 6-7 months, Golden Boy is going to try and age him out. I expect Canelo Cotto 2 first.

Also F Max for telling GGG it was his responsibility to make a fight he won. Get out of here with that shit

The 118-110 is worth getting upset about but the outcome isn't that controversial to me.

1-3, 10-12 are defensible for Canelo (I gave GGG 11) . I did not give GGG a 4-9 shutout.

They will fight again derby weekend I'd put a substAntial bet on that. And you are right. I think canelo could have been had rounds 7-9

GGG is fighting in December, hopefully to take the belt off that bum BJ Saunders. Canelo said he's done for year.

The people, and more importantly in this case the Mexican people, have spoken and Canelo is going to get some shit for this and might be forced to make the rematch in May

Decent fighter, not a good person - at least not as a youth. Surprisingly little power for someone with his reputation, but a helluva chin.

How did you score the fight? You're the resident expert here.
I was out and planning to get back around midnight to watch it, but saw around 11:45 that it was already in the 5th round, so just didn't see it. I'll catch the replay.

This is so tough to score. I have Canelo 5-4 after 9, but I have him the 9th. I just like hard punches more than volume.

I enjoyed the hell out of that fight. I thought Canelo won. 116 -112 is his max though, Byrds card is nuts.

If you scored it for GGG you scored it more like Harold. I really disagree with his card.

Quoting myself. Looks like Marciano had a similar card. I had 115 - 113 for Canelo

Well I'm on the other end. I had GGG 7-5 and if I'm being honest 8-4. I can't get over Canelo running most of the rounds and only fighting 30 seconds a round before getting on that bike.

I mean 3-4 rounds could've gone either way. At least.

And that is why Byrd's goofy card ruined so much. If it's 115- 113 split and one judge scores it 114 - 114 it might be mildly controversial but people would be more focused on the actual fight instead of the corruption angle.

I could see that. The timing of the rematch will be interesting. If it was logical and in December I'd favor GGG. But in May and definitely September, with GGG being older and rust being a real factor, I think the odds tilt cinnamon.

The Linares/Campbell fight turned out to be a good chess match last night.

Great match. Again, had Campbell, but it was close. Especially with the knockdown.

I think Canelo wins the rematch on either date. He just has to feign a bit more activity. That's all GGG had on him. He really wasn't landing on him much. Even against the ropes.

Wilder Ortiz cancelled because Ortiz failed a drug test. That makes the 2nd dangerous opponent busted for PEDs ahead of a big fight for Wilder. He has some bad luck.

Yeah, I suppose. Ortiz is a sitting duck at this point with no jab. Wilder can be lazy, true, but I don't see how Ortiz gets inside on him.

I agree but it's a decent name (better than what he's had recently) on his resume.

You're a New Yorker right? You going to Loma Rigo?

Wilder gives Joshua some serious problems. Kid can't handle movement and has that Canelo stamina.
