The sideline reporter just said that they are still working diligently on trading for Jordan, but the Brooklyn pick isn’t on the table. She also said that their recent poor play has submarined the trade value of most of their current roster.
this is ridiculous, other than Lebron and maybe Love (and maybe Crowder) no one on that roster had any trade value to begin with

Great effort by LeBron but holy shit was that bad defense by Minnesota at the end. How do you give up that look to that player?

I feel really bad for IT. He went from the man in Boston to this dumpster fire. He looks cooked but the situation sucks.
I wonder if people are going to eventually realize that he was never actually that good here, either. In a lot of ways, despite the Celtics' success, he was the beneficiary of playing on a team without many options. He looked impressive, on one end of the floor, except when teams trapped on him or collapsed on him inside. And on the other end of the floor he was a fucking disaster at all times. BPM liked him, but BPM usually likes high-usage guys who play offense regardless of whether they can play defense.

And he is an asshole. This is not new in Cleveland. He just didn't have the leash to be his full-asshole self in Boston.

That people still miss him is mystifying to me.

I watched the end of the Cavs game--late 4th through OT. I believe the entire offense in that span of time was "Give it to LBJ".

Now LBJ is awesome of course, but there didn't seem to be any semblance of an offensive system or set plays.

Everyone on twitter keeps saying the Brooklyn pick is no longer in play since the Cavs dealt their first rounder. That's not quite true. They could trade that pick if they got another first rounder back in the deal. So theoretically they could deal the Brooklyn pick for Jordan as long as LAC flips the Pistons pick back. That probably won't come into play today, but it's worth noting.

They could also get a 2019 1st back instead, right?

Because he was that good here. Granted, most of what you are saying is correct - he had the perfect system for him and the perfect set of teammates - but he still played great and Brad managed to hide (at least substantially) his defensive deficiencies.

Would the Cs have gotten Horford without IT? Would they have gotten GH?

I keep thinking to what DA (maybe it was Brad?) told IT when he got to BOS: "Don't adjust to them, make them adjust to you." That was great advice for the Cs team he joined. I wonder if IT was following that advice with the Cavs - although it was a diametrically opposite situation.

Wow, Cavs basically remaking their team on the fly. Clarkson, Nance, Hill, and Hood in. Frye, Crowder, IT, and Rose out.

BOS has their work cut out for them.

That's a lot of pieces to integrate, but damn, is Cleveland good now? Hill, Hood, Clarkson and Nance are all legit rotation guys. Shump, IT, Rose and Frye not so much. Crowder's been a bust for them.

Lebron: IT is dead. So is Iman Shumpert. Dwayne Wade. Crowder. Frye. Today, I settle all family business.

Cleveland probably got a little bit better today, by getting rid of IT and D-Rose, but they also kill any hope at a championship IMO.

They get better on average but lose upside. Their only (extremely remote) shot at a title would've been if IT and Crowder started playing like they did in Boston. Now they traded IT for a couple better players but with lower upside.

So, this signals Lebron is staying in CLE right?
Not really. The chances are probably better than they were yesterday, but LAL just got a lot more attractive, too. I think Cleveland did the best they could under the circumstances but Lebron is still going to look around this summer for his best opportunity to win more titles.

Not really. Bid to keep him, but also younger upside players for if he leaves vs aging vets
Yeah, there was article out in last few days that Cavs have pivoted away from listening to everything he wants because he won't give them clarity.

I see it as exactly the opposite. They had NO chance at a title with that roster. They just got younger and more energetic on D, and surrounded Lebron with way more complementary players than he had before.

Which is to say, now they have a 1% chance at a title.

$50 Million in luxury tax. Wow.

I agree with this tweet from Sam Alipour:

One thing about the Cavs haul: Jordan Clarkson is criminally underrated ... talented gamer, inexpensive, not yet in his prime, and his teammates love him

I think it also signals that LBJ is gone. CLE took on $70+MM in future salary. If LBJ stays, he may bankrupt Gilbert with luxury tax payments (of course maybe that's his plan).

Eh, I still get the strong impression LeBron is counting the days till he never has anything to do with the loathsome Dan Gilbert. He got his hometown its first title; now his work there is done. I doubt this remotely changes that basic calculus, but I do think it significantly improves both the chemistry and the talent on the team for his last run (as a Cav) at a title.

I get that it might "improve the chemistry" in the locker room -- because, apparently, it couldn't have gotten worse --but you never know what bringing in so many new parts will do. Maybe the group they bring in won't gel as well

If it couldn't have gotten worse, there is definitely nothing wrong with rolling the dice and trying something new. Is there any downside when you're at a "It cannot get worse," level?

I guess it can always get worse. Unless it can't.

Not gel as well? I can't imagine it being any worse than it was. I've never seen a team that looked that disinterested and unhappy with each other.

deep inside Guido territory
"I'm told by a Cavs source that GM Koby Altman went to LeBron James before they traded Dwyane Wade to make sure he understood what was behind the move. Altman told James that the decision would be up to Wade and James thought that was fair. Cavs felt it was important to make sure James understood, since Wade is his best friend."

That kind of debunks the notion that the Cavs front office isn't talking to LeBron.

Watching the videos of the Cavs' defense these past few weeks is an indication the players hated each other and had no interest in doing anything or expending any energy.
