Sad news indeed.

He and Steve Nelson owned a bar in Canton at one time called Doc and Nellie's, we'd go there on occasion to watch Patriots games.

R.I.P. Doc.

He was my dentist. Loved to talk about the Patriots and football in general.

I hope I'm not telling any tales out of school but I remember a few conversations with him, most of which took place with his hands and instruments in my mouth.

He said that coming out of high school he had an offer to attend Notre Dame but that his father was a public school official and nixed the idea of Bill attending a private school. He ended up at Penn State.

He said a pregame ritual at Penn State during his time there was for a group of players to meet up at the captain's place hours before the game. They would drink coffee and smoke cigarettes. Said it got him really amped up to play the game.

One of the last times I saw him was after Jonas Gray's big game. I said he reminded me of Don Calhoun, whom Bill had blocked for. Bill commented on a part of Don's anatomy, said that why he was so tough to bring down. Said he loved blocking for "Donny."

Oh, and he was one damned fine dentist. RIP Bill.....
