So, do we have to root for Arizona to lose? Because if they win, that would mean either they or Gonzaga will make the final four, which presumably means an apocalypse before Saturday afternoon.

No. The ref said it goes back to team last in possession.
That would be a questionable call. The question is whether the ball was in a team's possession at the time of the dead ball, which is at the time of the whistle when the ball was over the cheerleaders.

The whole inadvertent whistle thing was a fiction anyway. It wasn't an inadvertent whistle. He meant to blow it. That was clear by the fact that he pointed at the baseline and then signaled Gonzaga ball. It was an accidental whistle.

I'm just telling you what the guy said. And per what they said, WVU did not lose possession of ball. We can debate whether they did or not, but the officials ruled that they did not.

And per twitter reports, the possession arrow was changed but shouldn't have been.

Gonzaga bailed out officials on lame "inadvertent whistle" call. If inadvertent, official knows right away. Replay is not allowed. Period.

I *think* what happened is the officials realized the fucked up and simply tried to make it "right". Which they shouldn't do.

An inadvertent whistle is not reviewable.

I believe you. That would be consistent with them inventing things to do justice. They knew WVA deserved the ball. I'm saying in that case they got two rules wrong. First, you cannot use replay to call an inadvertent whistle on a ball that did not go out of bounds. Second, once you say it's an inadvertent whistle, you either give to the team in possession or to the team with the possession arrow if it was a loose ball, determined at the moment it became a dead ball (when the whistle sounded).

I think one way to interpret what happened is they used replay to have the ref who called it OOB decide it was an nadvertent whistle, then they looked at replay to come up with an argument that it was not a loose ball based on whether it was a double tip or just a fumble. That would explain why the ref who blew the call -- the one with white hair on the baseline -- was watching the replay for the beginning but then left and the other one (who was primary on who had the ball) was brought in.

Kansas going to score at least 90 for their 3rd straight tournament game. I wonder how many times that has happened the past 25 years.

Edit: Kevin Harlan says 95 UConn was the last team to score 90 in their first three tournament games.
