Maybe they think the fans like him, and will buy more tickets to give him a great send off over the next 2 weeks?

Or they are the Tigers.

I wouldn't be surprised to see him in the Red Sox organization next year

I'm surprised this didn't happen sooner. He basically dared the team to fire him last year before they started playing better. Ausmus doesn't seem that bright, and for at least the past few months, they've been an unprofessional team on the field and in the dugout (multiple cases of throwing at opponents, players fighting in the dugout and interacting with opposing fans, Ausmus himself making arguments and challenges that seemed pointless). Seems like the definition of "losing the team". Why announce this with 10 games left though? The timing makes me think he forced the issue, but then why keep him around for the end of the season? After all, isn't this Gene Lamont's lot in life?

I think it may have been forced by his comment yesterday about where a player is going to possibly hit in the lineup next next year

Ausmus said that he didn't know, you'll have to ask the manager

Well, brad went to Dartmouth and is very very bright. Grew up with him (as did several other SoSHers) and know him well enough to say that he's also arrogant enough to get blown up a bit in the job. He mocked advanced statistical analysis and got out managed a lot. His teammates loved him but he never seemed to click as a manager. DD hired him in Detroit. And he interviewed for Sox job in past. But I think his disdain for statdata would hurt him with Henry.

If I was Brad I would get out of Detroit and head back to SD and live happily there

I think he'd be a very good broadcaster. Not sure if he's ready to give up on the managing thing yet.
