tOSU - We are all out of body parts with which to slap Michigan in the face

Hey Dave, remember when you wrote this?
My point was they both suck and played for a Big 10 Championship, yet in your eyes "Michigan doesn't have enough talent to win the Big 10 this season and it seems unlikely that they will do so next season." UM has enough talent to win this season or next.

Oh, so your post was dumb for a different reason, fair enough. You perceive that Michigan has anywhere near the talent that MSU had last season? Iowa got a free ride to the championship game thanks to a quirk of scheduling and some lucky bounces of the ball. Michigan has about as much of a chance of getting into the championship game as my ball bag has of getting into Scarlett Johannsen's (living) mouth.

I'm not even an UM fan, but the Bama game told us everything we need to know about MSU last year. I look forward to bumping this thread on November 26th!

So in a battle of Meyer vs one of his ex-assistants Urban played it classy and kept the margin of victory under 59. That is the way an elite program handles itself, no need to go to 5 dozen, keep it mellow.

Michigan limped past Wisconsin, generally playing terribly and depending on the refs to hand them the game. In addition, Jim Harbaugh had a non-chain restaurant meal before the game and as a result he crapped his pants on the field in the third quarter. Shameful really.
Is crapping your pants on the sideline better or worse than picking your nose and eating it on live TV on the sideline. Need a ruling.

I had thought that the booger picking and eating on the sidelines was a Buckeye boards related goof.........but alas, Harbaugh finds new and horrifying ways to make himself relatable to the UM fan base. "See! I eat my boogers, just like YOU!!!!!"

So another quality win for the Buckeyes against one of the elite programs in the Big10. As everyone knows, the University of Indiana is the former home of Lee Corso, they have 5 national championships and such greats as John Cougar Mellencamp, Mark Cuban and Wendell Wilkie are alums. When you take down a program like that, it's Miller time. But for the Buckeyes, Miller wouldn't be appropriate as they are under 21 for the most part and you can't be distracted in your quest for a national title!

And Michigan? Holy crap balls what a stink bomb they put up in Piscataway. First off, that is really great thinking to come in and try and embarrass the University with the highest number of organized crime graduates in America. Great thinking Harbaugh.

But they weren't even successful in their efforts. THEIR ENTIRE OFFENSE HAD 3 YARDS LESS THAN THE RUTGERS PUNTER!!!! Think about that. A real live football team can't even match the yardage of a kid who trains by eating hot pockets and watching videos called "How to punt far" on DVD. Wow Jim Harbaugh, much egg on your face?

Exactly, I'll have the Italian Omelette once it is done dripping off Mr. Harbaugh's face. At least I know it will be booger free.

Tonight the run towards the championship continues in earnest. Seeing Ohio State -10 is a little bit surprising, considering they are on the road. My inclination is to think that line is really high. Which makes Ohio State the lock of the weekend to cover.

I'm not sure that having a thread pretty much dedicated to both mocking and lampooning WBV makes all that much sense now that he is gone, but we're this far, and if there is one thing Buckeyes do, it is get to the end (zone. against Michigan. A lot).

Beware the Ides of November, Harbaugh. Or, technically the VI Kalendas Decembris. Whatever.

I just finished absolutely grueling 5 1/2 hour car ride. Had the game on in the car but it was hard to listen to given my kids constant bickering. Were the defenses that good today, or the offenses just misfiring? How bad were the picks that Speight threw? The radio guys were pretty critical of both him and Barrett all day – was the QB play that bad?

Both QBs played poorly. Fortunately Meyer moved to having Barrett make plays with his feet and got Samuel more involved, which took the offense to a better place for the Bucks.

Both defenses played very tough.

My kids are the worst when it comes to listening to sports on car trips. Kudos for not murdering a child.
Yeah, but your kids are young. My youngest is 16* and a varsity football player. My older one is a huge football fan. They should have been listening in rapt attention instead of engaging in the non-stop shitshow (although "touch me again and I'll break your jerk-off hand" did make me laugh, and I will probably look to use that in the future, without attribution).

*He measured 6'2", 256 at his exit interview last week, so it's not like I can really do anything when he's not listening to me anyway.

So after two days the B1G is 2-1 with that loss being a tight game between Indiana and Utah. The SEC is 0-1 I believe (Texas A&M).

I do think that the bowl games are a decent indicator of conference strength overall and I am pretty optimistic that the B1G is going to continue it's success from last year into this year. We'll see.

I think the SEC will end with a losing record, they are lucky that MSU lucked out a win. It will be interesting to see if Bama is really head and shoulders above everyone else.

SEC is 1-2. Mississippi State beat Miami (Ohio) 17-16 and Vanderbilt lost to NC State 41-17.

Holy Moley, I am asleep at the switch. Thanks for correcting that. Mississippi State seemed to me to be the better team on the field, but the fact that it took a blocked field goal to beat a MAC team is not a good statement. The SEC could be in for a tough ride. We'll see.

Don't be fooled. Miami is a good and quickly improving team. At 6-2 conference/6-7 overall in 2016, a vast improvement over their 2015 record of 2-6/3-9. Their starting roster is dominated by underclassmen. They're seeing the effect of bringing in Chuck Martin. Martin established a very solid record and respected reputation as a D-II juggernaut over 5+ years and 3 Division championships at Grand Valley State. Stepped up to the D-I challenge and struggled with his predecessor's recruits in '14 and '15. You don't need to look far to predict next year's MAC champion.

OK, so a lot to discuss here.

First off, my aunt and one of my cousins both attend Miami, so you don't need to sell me on the cradle of coaches as a solid football school with a coach who may or may not be on the come (I am less optimistic than you are that they will make the leap next season. I think that the MAC has really gotten traction over the last few years because of the tv exposure, and a number of programs there are going to be white hot).

But before the CFP came to be, all we ever heard about was how the SEC was so much better than everywhere else it wasn't funny. A MAC team - and not even the best team in the conference....heck, not even the winner of their division this season - should not be able to have an SEC team by the throat. And yet, there we were.

The SEC is basically a blocked field goal away from being 0-5 so far in bowl season. That is, to me, staggering given how highly regarded the conference has been over the last ten years.

The SEC is the Phil Michelson of college football: FIGJAM.

I hope Washington runs Bama off the field. I think it's unlikely, because I think Bama really is that good, but the way the rest of the conference preens would be like the Jets and Bills talking shit and telling the Raiders, Cowboys, and Falcons that they'd be sub .500 teams in the AFC East.

Get fucked, SEC.

I came to college football really late (only the last few years) and without a big time rooting interest. Now, other than NFL playoffs, its the only football I watch, I love Saturdays.

So obviously the SEC has been hammered down my newbie throat. At my age and with kids, I can watch a full game on Saturday, half-pay attention to a few others and then listen to some awesome podcasts on the sport during the week. I had been trained to think of the SEC game of the week as the game I would watch. It helps that I'm here in the South with a strong affinity for SEC culture (these people do not grow up. My firm has 13 offices across the SE, in most of the big SEC markets and Saturdays are a religion).

But this year, specifically following the early season Stanford/Washington game (sorry OFT), I started to understand I had been marketed to and realized what I was missing.

I mean, did anyone watch those Wyoming/San Diego St. games? Good God. Everytime I hear about the SEC now I pay attention to whose selling it and what they are selling. It's a fun conference but I missed a lot of great college football buying into the lie.

Obviously the ACCand basketball is a different story; that is the truth and the light and the way.

OK.......and I am going to hate myself for typing all of this......but there are some great things about the SEC.

1) Their fanbases are, for the most part, pretty darned loyal. Yes, there are teams in all conferences who pack the house each week, but Texas A&M, LSU, Tennessee, Auburn, Arkansas, UGA, Alabama, Ole Miss......heck, the fans of those schools live, eat and breathe college football and you have to respect that.

2) Fantastic traditions in the conference. Everyone getting all dolled up to get boozed up at the Grove, TP'ing the oaks at Auburn, the incredible food at LSU tailgates, the 12th man stuff at A&M, making out with your sister after a win at UF.......there are a lot of things to like about those games.

3) Creativity. One of the things that I do respect about the SEC is that the conference and the coaches don't tend to have a style of play. Nick Saban is obviously an amazing college football coach, but other than having running backs who rack up 50k in yards and then stink in the NFL, what kind of style does he play? The teams in the SEC generally do a great job of recruiting in superb athletes and then putting them into positions to make plays. I think the quality of football is not as high as people perceive, but I do like that this year's team X may look completely different from last year's team X, which isn't true in a lot of places where coaches try to fit players into their system.

However, their fans and a number of commentators have elevated the conference to a ludicrous point and it is fun to see these absolutists eat crow.
